ON NEWSSTANDS AUGUST 1960

Steve Ditko was up to 4 stories for Marvel in August. From Strange Tales #80.

Penciled and inked by Steve Ditko. Writer unknown. NOT written by Stan Lee.

Ditko is making the most out of whatever short synopsis idea of -script he's getting... these are all 5 page stories with the first page a big splash...

ON NEWSSTANDS AUGUST 1960

One month over 4 YEARS from the the first Silver Age Flash appearance, DC Comics makes history with the first Silver Age superhero TEAM in its own book, Justice League of America #1.

Some would argue, Challengers was the first super TEAM in the Silver Age to get its own book - team, regularly got super powers, fantastic adventures, etc. - but this was the first team of costumed super heroes in the Silver Age. Sales don't show it to be as hot as some have made it out to be, but its Top 20 book and proof that there's still an audience for this.

DC's resurgence of super heroes lights a fire in the fanzine world and Jerry Bails (who'd been in touch with Julius Schwartz and Gardner Fox and others since 1953) would soon fan those flames...

Chapter ONE: Murphy Anderson cover, Gardner Fox story and Mike Sekowsky interior art.
