I recently purchased an Action Comics 18 to go with my other 11/1939 DC issues (All-American 8 and Detective 33).

The book has a taped spine split and some tear seals, but having a copy is good enough for me.

A couple days after getting it in hand, I sat down to read. The Superman story is a fun tale about a corrupt foster house and I turned the page to see an ad that concerned me. It said Superman 6 was coming July 12th. Why would this be in a book that hit stands in September of 1939? It should have an ad for either Superman 2 or maybe 3.

I decide to do some digging with the website readcomicsonline to find that the interior is Action 27.

Normally, I'd be furious, but my Detective Comics 33 is missing the back cover and Action 18 has the same one, inside and out. I confirmed that via several online sources. So, I cut the tape that sealed the spine split, and put the back cover with my Detective. 

Also, I now have front cover for Action 18 and an interior to 27 I can use for trade.

I should probably have been upset, but my Tec 33 is only needing centerfold to be complete.

@D84 be sure to check the department number on the mailing address for the back covers.  They can be different.

Action 27 is the first cover appearance of Lois (many believe).  Good book to have!

The department numbers match. 990B.

I bought an All American 2 for the back cover...  turns out the interior side did not match and neither did the department number.

Detective 27, of course! 

Actually, Action 12 (since some prior collector cut the back cover off that one for their DC27)

As someone who's had the Batman from Tec 33 tattooed on my arm for over a decade (and my only one at that!) congrats on getting one piece closer to a complete copy!
