1970s 7-11 Ms Marvel cup error — What's the story? 0

We're gearing up for a home renovation that will require us to move ourselves and all of our belongings out of the house for ~6 months.

The bad news is that I have almost 50 years worth of collectibles squirreled away in this house — some of them intentionally hidden over the years to surprise myself in retirement. (Years ago I learned that that zoo keepers hide treats for the animals to keep them on their toes -- they call it "enrichment" --  and I thought, "That's a heII of an idea. I'm in!")

The good news is that I'm getting my enrichment early as I unearth these treasures that I had kind of forgotten about.

Today I was packing up my old Marvel 7-11 Slurpee cups from the 70s and I noticed something I'd never seen before. There was a pretty big error on my Carol Danvers cup:

 

As you can see, on Earth 711 Ms Marvel has Spider-woman's secret identity and origin. I figured Marvel and 7-11 must have seen the error after the cups were printed, gasped in horror, and collectively said, "Eh, it's a Slurpee cup. Close enough."

However, just for kicks I searched on eBay to see if I could find another one and found a seller with a corrected version.

 

Anybody know the story on this? Was the error version widespread or do I have a gen-you-whine oddity on my hands? I searched the boards but couldn't find a thread on this (doesn't mean there aren't 20).

your cup is a first printing / first manufactured, and yes they caught the error and corrected it as you are aware. Your cup is a gen-you-whine oddity / rare. Thanks for sharing!

Another thing I noticed about my cups as I was packing them up is that none actually had the 7-11 logo, which I am used to seeing. Maybe another first printing thing?

These cups were manufactured for use by different companies.  Some had branding others did not. Those companies that paid for the licensing use of these cups that wanted their logo on the cups would have had to pay for that.

Slurpee was 7-11, but you could go to a different chain and get a slush.

Icee was obtained at many convenience stores not called 7-11. image below of Spider-man Icee cup.

Circle-K also used these cups, some had branding like the ones below.

Your cup is a 1978 Circle-K cup, without the branding but a misprint version. Image of one like it attached.

If they have "Allmarket Promotions Inc. Bala" they are Circle K cups no branding first print run.

There are many "undefined" cups that were used in any convenience location that sold Icee/Slurpee/Slush.

all the cups I had were from 7-11. not sure if I had this one but there are better experts on the subject

I did make a nice bit of $ when I sold them on EbY--  which I was cool with as these things won't last forever---- the plastic becomes fragile and eventually collapses imo

I still have the cups from when I bought them.

that is the 1966 Spiderman poster, and the artist is Ditko

That's why I included it.

I'm saying the 7-11 cup is a re draw of that old Ditko pose.
