GRADE IS IN: PGM X-Men #106
1 1

11 posts in this topic

Very light color breaking crease on the outer edge about 1" below the CCA label, color breaking corner crease at lower right corner, slight fading across top edge, slight color rub, cover does not completely cover interior pages at bottom right (FT Cover), bottom left (R Cover), minor foxing on rear cover.

According to the grading standards you are not allowed any color breaking creases in any grade above FN/VF 7.0, however considering that a book is graded on it's entirety, I feel you could still get a NM- 9.2.

9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-):  Back to Top
Nearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.

9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken.

8.0 VERY FINE (VF): An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken.

7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases.

Grade is in: 8.5.

I personally thought this was more in the 9.0-9.2 range, but I think the soiling on the back (which I should have been better about cleaning up) may have hurt it and I'm not sure how the slight color fade at the top of the cover also counted against. Unfortunately there aren't any grader notes (anything below 9.8 really should offer some note and definitely anything below 9.0). This was one of my first submissions and an early book with with my C&P techniques so I'm somewhat tempted to CPR it, but not sure I can bump the grade significantly. Probably not worth the effort.
