Unfortunately,  AI is better at writing then many of the current writers are. While I support people getting paid fairly, I do not like the mandates on how many writers must be hired based on number of episodes,  and length of episodes.  This artificially setting for writer's room sizes that is not based on quality ultimately damages the product. Looking back, most of my favorite shows and movies have smaller writers rooms, which seems to lead to a more focused, and usually high quality product.

Currently in a phase of "too many cooks in the kitchen". If you don't need a prep chef, don't hire a prep chef.

Since I don't really know anything about SAG/etc... Are all actors part of SAG?

Yes, you must be part of SAG for the most part, and all roles that have lines are members. I knew a girl that got a SAG card many many years ago and it basically went like this.  You must have three titled screen appearances where you are recognizable, meaning not generic face in the crowd.  She got these by showing up to day of open casting calls for TV shows. So this would be for things like waitress number 2, girl in elevator, etc.  For open calls,  SAG members got priority, if one was not present, the day walk on part could go to anyone.  Each time this happened you got signed off as a credited appearance.   Once you got three, your SAG card could be issued, if you agreed to pay the dues.

So if the SAG is now striking does that mean production stops on stuff currently being filmed (Deadpool 3), or does it only affect new stuff that hasn't started filming?

All filming has to stop.

Man does that ring hollow from a woman worth millions.  I fully support struggling actors who don't make a lot of money, but when you have studio CEO's making millions per year publically arguing with actors making millions per movie or 6 figures for a single episode of TV, it is hard to get sympathy from regular people.

I do sympathize with the treat that AI could pose to their profession long term.  Again, it does not help when multiple actors have licensed out they likeness and voice already, which would be the basis for AI actors.

I get your point. But I also see this is a celebrity representative that through her fame can use this platform to much more widely convey their points of pain and concern.

Matt Damon voiced his concerns too, and outlined why writers and other creative staff deserve better pay. Are his points less valid because of his wealth, or is he using the news to best get that word out? I guess it depends on your perception.

Every time I hear about this "problem" I think of the South park episode where they're talking about stealing music. Not a big deal?!

Again, the potential perception problems when you have a union where 1% are insanely wealthy, 10% are doing OK, and the rest are barely getting by.

I get that the talent deserves appropriate compensation and reasonable residuals.  So upping base pay will help the "regular" members.  Also the lower level background people are likely the first that would be replaced by AI bots.  I get it.  On the other hand, arguing for larger residuals only helps the most successful actors. If they want to help the rank and file they need to be mainly concentrating on preserving walk on jobs, bit roles, and making sure those people are paid accordingly.

Unfortunately,  it will always be a business where there are far more workers than jobs, and despite fair compensation for individual parts, most members will struggle financially.

So glad this does not affect porn, i plan on viewing copius amounts of that to fill in the entertainment void

They also view indipendant content creators on YouTube, twitch, etc as a threat. This will just make those platforms even more popular.

That must be a younger generational thing - I find that stuff patently unwatchable. When Hollywood goes on strike, I pop in my Star Trek TNG VHS tapes.
