Jakeemthundah
Was looking at this book and noticed on the back these blotches on the back edge and top. The graders notes doesn’t say anything about them and the grade is cgc 9.2. Was just wondering if this is from something that occurred after the book was slabbed? Is it just the lighting? Any help would be appreciated.
theCapraAegagrus
That is an insane case of Newton Rings. It's not damage, it's an optical effect created by the 2 plastics materials touching off. Dr. Balls
Jakeemthundah
Thank you for that. I had heard something about newton rings before, but didn’t know if this was an example.

It's not damage, it's an optical effect created by the 2 plastics materials touching off. People are going to have to start utilizing macro photography to show the Newton's Rings effects. At quick glance, it's hard to tell if that is discoloration or an issue with slabbing. The top corner is a little more discernible, but as it works down the lower edge, it looks dirty. This should continue to be a fun problem to navigate! Edited May 14, 2023 by Dr. Balls
