Other collectors seemed stumped as well, but one pointed out 'Tales to Astonish #96 ( a good one). Covers with the Red Skull were also acknowledged. But any others beyond that? And while the Red Skull ones are welcomed here would like to what else is out there that i seem to be forgetting or just not aware of. For the sake of this Thread, let's say 1960 - 1969 My Silver collection is light at the moment, so i'm just a spectator here. Post 'em if you got 'em!!! Skulls and skeletons were limited in the post code era for a while. You had to be careful they could only be used in a “dead” or symbolic form otherwise they constituted being the walking dead which was a no-no. Things by the 1970’s had changed enough that a character like Ghost Rider could be done in 1972. I would say that character would be problematic ten years earlier for a publisher. I would think numbers 3 and 5 below would be on a publishers mind with using skulls/skeletons until the 1970’s arrived. General standards—Part B (1) No comic magazine shall use the word horror or terror in its title. (2) All scenes of horror, excessive bloodshed, gory or gruesome crimes, depravity, lust, sadism, masochism shall not be permitted. (3) All lurid, unsavory, gruesome illustrations shall be eliminated. (4) Inclusion of stories dealing with evil shall be used or shall be published only where the intent is to illustrate a moral issue and in no case shall evil be presented alluringly, nor so as to injure the sensibilities of the reader. (5) Scenes dealing with, or instruments associated with walking dead, torture, vampires and vampirism, ghouls, cannibalism, and werewolfism are prohibited. This cover was at the top of my thoughts when I saw the threads title. It’s a great cover but a little sad they didn’t do a full skull instead of a half skull. Artists choice or artist being aware of the code? Who knows. Would loved to have seen a full skull like Dark Mysteries #2… hchill25, Raze, Frisco Larson and 1 other
