I'm not going to have time to list anything tonight but take a look back and take 20% off any of the new books from page 12 through 19 AND any of the already reduced Recap books :yeehaw:

I have another stack to list tomorrow, then I'm going to close this thread out before it becomes too unwieldy and the unsold books will go to my Ebay store.

I'll probably have another sale in a couple of weeks after I finish my sorting. The library is really starting to look nice!

Okay, going to swing back into action with a few more Avons...

The Amboy Dukes by Irving Shulman   Avon 169   1948        $20

Gorgeous blue GGA cover. Another one credited in the copyright office to Ann Cantor but likely a hired hand.  Wayward  Brooklyn youth rolling around in the grass under the night sky with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. A classic image.

Fine. Great colors and page quality, Spine and covers are smooth with light wear. Some very light spotting on back cover but overall an excellent copy. A classic JD novel.

Cockpit by Warwick Scott          Lion Books 140   1st Edition Paperback original  1953      $20  Now $18

Cult Classic Racing JD/Drug title with a nice Good Girl working the pit on the cover.

Fine, No spine slant, which is rare for a Lion book. Slight rubbing to the cover. Very light reader crease but no other creasing on the front cover and only minor creasing on the rear. Pages are tight in the binding and supple and off-white, not browning as is usually found on these.  Pretty nice for a 70 year old fragile production.

I promised some Popular Librarys in the title so I'll drop a few nice ones in here, including some beautiful Belarski covers to start.

The Chuckling Fingers by Mabel Seeley                    Popular Library 231    1950     A very scarce Popular Library title       $25

Headlights pulp style cover by Rudolph Belarski - originally appeared on a Popular pulp, I don't have the issue handy, but I find the coloring and detail are so much better on the paperbacks.

Fine plus. Solid square binding. The book appears unread. Almost no wear except a slight impact on top right corner with associated wrinkling on cover and a couple of interior pages. A beautifully presenting copy of a very scarce vintage Popular Library paperback

Do you know if this was the cover on the first printing or the zoot suit cover? hm

Asking for a friend.

It has never been established in any of the guides. However, your asking the question probably establishes it for posterity right here at CGC, since I had to go take pics of the copyright pages...

The Brooklyn Bridge cover and the Zoot suit cover both have the exact same HRO on the back page, however, the BB cover only lists the 1948 copyright and the Zoot suit cover lists the 1948 & 1949 copyright, so it is likely the second cover.

Also, of course, there was another Zoot suit cover with a word blurb  :canofworms:  I believe either the 1st or 2nd of the Zoot suit covers :)

Double Indemnity by James M. Cain   Avon 137   1947        $20

Around this time in 1947, Avon began to pioneer the use of very large figures of Good Girls (sometimes Bad Girls :) ) and headlights on the covers. This one, credited in the copyright office to GGA pioneer Tony Varaday is a nice example.

Fine. Great colors and page quality, Spine and covers are smooth and lightly creased, barely noticeable from the front. Some writing on first page like Embezler but overall an excellent copy. A classic hard boiled novel.

Got a little space in my day so I am going to get to work on a little pile of Avons. These are very fresh bright copies for the most part with great page quality. I took a pic of the interior on this one to show the freshness.

The Embezzler by James M. Cain   Avon 99   1946        $20

A great copy of an early picture frame Avon by the hard boiled master.

Fine Plus. Great colors and page quality, Spine and covers are smooth and uncreased. Couple of tiny light finger bends. Small bindery chip at top spine. Some writing on first page but overall an excellent copy. Tough to find early Avons like this.

if 20% off discounted price :takeit:

Haven't been able to read for several weeks because of a vitreous detachment (eye is filled with dark floaters) in my only good eye, but I can see well enough to type. Hopefully be able to read again in a few weeks.

Can't believe no one bought this one already.

Yours my friend and hope you continue healing. Thanks for recognizing this for what it is. Tevis only wrote a few things, but they are so astute on human nature. Mockingbird is such a fantastic read, I thank @Pat Calhoun for reminding me a while back.

Thank you! I'm hoping that it clears up soon. I bought The Man Who Fell to Earth (Bowie cover) right before I had the vitreous detachment and haven't had clear enough vision to read since then. It has not been pleasant.

Dead Yellow Women by Dashiell Hammett. Dell 308 Mapback    1949     $40

One of the most read/collected hard boiled authors with a haunting, classic cover known to all vintage PB collectors.  I previously sold a low grade copy of this one but found that I have a much better second copy so offering it here.

Very Good Plus/ Fine minus. Solid and tight, spine has slight slant. Light readers crease and some spine wear but the cover is very smooth and otherwise uncreased. A book I've never seen without some kind of reader crease. My keeper has one.

Okay, I'm going to get this train rolling again. Pretty much going to be pretty cover art books.

The Rider by Edgar Rice Burroughs  Ace  72280   October 1974     $20

First paperback edition and only the third book publication.  Moody Frazetta cover with great detail. I found another, better copy so offering it here.

Very Fine minus. Super glossy, appears unread. Has tiny bits of rubbing wear that actually look far worse in pics than in hand. Tiny stamp on page edge. This is a stunner overall with off white pages that are very unusual.

Out Of Time's Abyss by Edgar Rice Burroughs  Ace  64482   March 1973     $20  SOLD to mrlatko

First Frazetta cover edition. Ace switched around some of the covers from the earlier editions when they did the tall editions and some of the Frazetta covers that were on other earlier short edition titles were used for the talls, with much greater detail sowing on the tall editions.

Very Fine minus. Super glossy, appears unread. Has a thumb bend on top back but this is another stunner overall with off white pages that are very unusual. Tiny stamp on page edge.

Return of the Mucker by Edgar Rice Burroughs  Ace  71815   March 1973     $18  SOLD to mrlatko

First Frazetta cover edition. Action packed fight cover with great detail.

Very Fine minus. Super glossy, appears unread. Has an odd crease/bend to upper left that looks like it came from the bindery. Tiny stamp on page edge. This is another stunner overall with off white pages that are very unusual. Reduced a bit for the crease
