This was incredibly hard fought already. And in some contests one grader has pulled way ahead by now, but to my eye it's still a total jump ball at the very top.

Good thing the most challenging round of all isn't coming right up!

Another trio of awesome books!    Here are the key measures of central tendency for Round 3 (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade):

Here are a few notable observations based on the data reported above:

• Book #7 (Love Diary #31):  A relatively easy book for the Board as a whole, with 29% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 71% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was just a tad more critical than CGC (2.9 vs 3.0).    
• Book #8 (Mysterious Adventures #17):  Another relatively easy book for the Board as a whole, with 26% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 65% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was just a tad more lenient than CGC (4.1 vs 4.0).   
• Book #9 (Mystery Men #2):  The most challenging book (by far) for the Board as a whole, with only two contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 29% within one grade increment of CGC.  Collectively, the Board was a tad more than two grade increment more critical than CGC (2.4 vs 3.5).    I just hope I get a similar "Golden Age Bump" when I turn 84!

1. Buy a lower grade book that presents well

2. Crack & list raw for several grades higher than the CGC score

3. Profit
