Dr. Balls
Initially graded as a 3.5. As I look it over, aside from the cover detached from bottom staple, it's got a 6.0/6.5 vibe to it - but I am not quite sure where the max grade is at on a popped staple. Lots of photos below. The plusses: Centerfold firmly attached at both staples Cover firmly attached at top staple Book is flat, bright with OW pages. No evidence of foxing The right side of the cover is not faded, it's the lighting - cover has no fading issues, nice rich black. The minuses: Minor top staple stress with color break. Four or five faint color breaking spine ticks. 3" color breaking crease on front cover Color breaking spine blunt on LLHC. comicginger1789
I think 4.0-4.5 is best case scenario. If it were just the popped staple and some general wear, I would say you have a shot at a 5.5-6.0. However, that massive crease is huge and will get dinged hard. scburdet
5.5/6.0, I think the lower option. 7.5/7.0 is max for a single staple detachment if otherwise perfect. The 1 crease already is dropping below this. Dr. Balls
Point Five
4.5, maybe a soft 5.0. Nice one! Dr. Balls
zzutak
The 3" cbc is the governing (or most significant) defect. It, alone, should cap the grade at 6.0. Deducting one additional grade increment for the blown staple and other lesser blemishes puts me at 5.5. grendelbo and Dr. Balls 1
Mars76
5.0-5.5 If you get this graded please post the results as I'm very curious as to what this will grade at. Edited June 28, 2023 by Mars76 Dr. Balls

I'm contemplating it - it's a nice presenter other than that crease on the FC. I bought this book about a week after I subbed a stack of other books, so it'll have to wait for awhile - but if I do, I'll post it! Tim_A_Par
Curios. I wanted to submit a Crime Suspenstories #22 with a popped bottom staple. It’s around a 3.0-3.5, but I’m hesitant to send in because I don’t want the green, Qualified label. I’d appreciate your thoughts on this having a popped bottom staple, yourself. southern cross
I always thought a popped staple on a book can't grade higher then 8.0, with the corner crease I never deduct points. I don't know how that works. All I know is certain grades allow for certain defects and with the length of the corner crease that breaks cover I'm at 5.5.
