Going to a couple more nice high grade science fiction titles for a minute...

The Beast That Shouted Love at the Heart Of The World by Harlan Ellison   Avon V2300     1st Printing July 1969       $40  SOLD to N e r V

Cover art by Leo and Diane Dillon. A very tough Ellison 1st PB to get in this high a grade.

Very Fine Minus/Very Fine.  Bright whites are a standout, super square, fresh, with white pages. Covers have a few finger bends and a pressure mark on the back cover, light surface wear but this is a new looking book.

I really needed that one too. The author “Brett Sterling” happens to be my first and middle names…:nyah:

In this case, it's actually Edmond Hamilton.  As far as I know it was only ever used on Captain Future stories, plus one stray Ray Bradbury tale when he had two stories in the same magazine.

Even then, Hamilton normally got to use his real name on the Captain Future stories, it was only during a brief window when others were writing them because he was in the military during WWII that they used the "Brett Sterling" name.

Anyway, great pickup!  If I didn't already have my copy I probably would have been trying to grab it as well.

Cop by Jack Karney    Pocket Books 898     1st Print       September 1952     $20

Classy Nylons Good Girl in the mirror cover art by gritty realist Stanley Zuckerberg.

A killer copy of a late number Pocket Book.  Very Fine Minus.  Super sharp and glossy with amazing colors for a 70 year old pb. Spine is square as a block, pages tight, nice page quality. A touch of wear along front spine edge and back cover and one or two surface marks on back. An amazing vintage paperback.

The Black Flame by Stanley G. Weinbaum   Harlequin Books 205    January 1953      $45  SOLD to N e r V

Rare 1st paperback edition of Weinbaum's classic superwoman novel from the Canadian publisher whose first 500 books were mainstream before switching to the romances they became famous for. They are extremely tough to find in any kind of nice shape. One of my favorite early 1930's Sci-Fi stories. Weinbaum changed Science Fiction quite a bit before the next pioneer, Heinlein.

Classic cover with stars in the pile of Black Margot's hair.

Incredible condition for a Harlequin. Fine Minus/Fine. Has the typical Harlequin long reader crease but otherwise this is a glossy square copy without the cover color rubbing that ruins the vast majority of early Harlequins to my taste. Otherwise this is Fine Plus with rubbing to the spine edges.

The Sherlock Holmes Pocket Book by A. Conan Doyle      Pocket Books 95     Scarce 1st Print       February 1941     $25  SOLD to Norrin's Lawyer

If you know Pocket's, you know. Very hard to find 1st Prints of the early editions. One of the most collected early titles for obvious reasons.

Not very high grade but a nicely presenting copy of a book that is extremely difficult to find any better than this due to multiple issues, age (82!), papery lamination,, hard cardboard covers etc. etc.

Very Good. Solid and square, everything tight, retains plenty of gloss. The thin lamination is mostly present but has the usual lifts, losses and tears. Soiling on the back cover. Bright white pages. The lack of hard creases makes this remain nice looking from the front.

Morocco Episode by William P. Brothers  Hillman Books No. 111   1959     $40  SOLD to mstrange

Awesome Robert Maguire GGA cover in high grade. Hillman's are pretty obscure and hard to find in high grade. This one is from the High Grade collection.

Very Fine Minus. Square and tight. Super glossy with great color and sharp edges. Has slight wear to the rear spine edge and a neat name stamp inside the front cover.

A beautiful copy

My choice for favorite Williamson novel and high at the top of Jeff Jones best SciFi/fantasy covers imho. A double knockout.

The Land Of Terror by Edgar Rice Burroughs      Ace F-256    1st PB, 1st Print.         January 1964        $40  SOLD to mstrange

Incredible Lost World flood cover by Frank Frazetta.  One of my favorites. The first copy of this 1st I've had to offer.

Very Fine almost VF/NM. Unread with great color and gloss. Razor sharp corners. No wear. Has a super light pressure mark on the cover and a color fleck on lower right corner. Nice  page quality. Looks like it was on the rack 59 years ago. Well worth a premium.
