Musk, Hashish and Blood by Hector France     Avon 415   1952       $60  SOLD to mstrange

Another iconic headlights/nipple cover by Raymond Johnson - one I call a "Fridge Magnet book" - because it has literally been made into fridge magnets and postcards the world over.  This is the 2nd numbering of the title.

Very Fine/Very Fine Plus - I'd call it VF/NM but has a small writing in --script on the first page. Bright, glossy and immaculate in every other way, including the lamination.

(Yes that's a plug for y'all to go buy up the remaining copies from Dan at Illustration! He is sadly closing down the magazine after 20 some odd years of amazing work :(!

Oh goodness, that’s horrible news!! What happened? Is he just moving on to a different phase of his life?? It’s one of the greatest resources ever for lovers of our graphic arts.  :whatthe:

Memory of Love by Bessie Breuer   Avon 196      1949      $15  SOLD to Norrin's Lawyer

Sweet headlights GGA credited to Ann Cantor, but as I revealed in my article, she was an art agent subbing work out to artists like Johnson. It is gorgeous work, whoever painted it and is indicative of how Avon moved on from the stiff art of the earlier 1940's during this time.

Fine/Fine Plus  Solid spine with slight slant. Great colors, smooth covers with minimal wear and creasing. A very collectible copy.

Yeah, in older publications like The Great American Paperback, lots of books are erroneously attributed to Cantor. It’s great that these masterpieces are now being properly attributed, bunch after batch.  :cloud9:

Fine Plus/Very Fine minus.  Beautiful copy for a 1949 book. Square solid spine, tight pages. Great colors, smooth covers with minimal wear and only a few finger bends.

The Blue Negro by Robert Payne     Avon 373  1952       $20  SOLD to OtherEric

A stunning copy.  Beautiful coloring and atmosphere on this famous cover by Bob Hilbert. One of the few Avons where the artist was credited inside the cover.

Very Fine Minus - I'd call this one VF/NM but has a light, old stain to the bottom edge. Bright, glossy and immaculate in every other way, including the lamination.

The Terror Of The Leopard Men by Juba Kennerley     Avon 339  1951       $15  SOLD to mstrange

Classic cover. Another "Fridge Magnet" type book. Cover artist is unknown but this book is collected by Sci Fi/Horror collectors as well as vintage pb collectors in general and reprinted all over the pace.

Very Good - A decent presenting bargain copy that still displays well. Has some warping to the covers and lamination peel but still glossy and bright.

House of Fury by Felice Swados           Avon 298   1950      $50

Another one of the most famous classic Golden Age Avon covers reprinted everywhere. This one by Calendar Pin-up artist Bill Randall.

A haunting image of the Delinquent Good Girl in the shadow of the bars. The title was originally published in paperback as "Reform School Girl" in Avon's famous Diversey Digest edition from 1948, which is pretty universally considered the top of the Vintage Paperback field for desirability and rarity.

Very Fine Minus. Another bright, glossy new looking book. Square and tight, great pages. Has a tiny bit of lamination missing in the lower right corner and a very light stain on back cover. Hints of wear. A top line copy.

The Werewolf Of Paris by Guy Endore        Avon 354   1951      $75  SOLD to mstrange

This book has disappeared from the market for the most part from what I can see. The incredible GGA Horror cover art is also by Bill Randall, although, ironically, it is another of the few that have the artist credit inside the cover and it calls him "William Randolph"    One of many reasons why it's so hard to figure these artists out!

Desirable for all the obvious reasons.

Very Fine Minus. Yet another bright, glossy new looking book. Square and tight, great pages. This one has a bit of lamination lifting and a small tear to the lam, also some page edge staining to the dye. A proud book to own in this shape.
