Ultimate Spider-Man #1 - Price Variant ?

Hoping someone can shed some light on this topic.

Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (Direct Edition UPC 5960605031) has a price of $2.99 US $4.50 CDN. Gummi Savers Back Cover Advertisement.

There also seems to be quite a scare/rare price variant which I can't find much information on.

Ultimate Spider-Man #1 (UPC 5960605190) has a price of $2.25 US / $3.50 CDN. It also has a Gameboy Advance Advertisement for the back cover. CLZ has it listed as cover 1.O $2.25 Gameboy Back Cover.

Does anyone know of this was a newsstand issue. Was it a reprint. Was it just a weird price variant being used in different regions.

Any information on this would be amazing!

I've attached pictures below of each cover

I used to have all these. That's the 'Checkers' reprint:

That is a very comprehensive list! Or just a lot of "variant editions", I didn't realize this happened this much in the early 2000's, but nice to learn.

I've forgotten more about them than I remember now. There were tons of USM variants, some common, some not so common. I've no idea whether they still command any interest though.

I was 11 when this series came out. It's what got me into Comic Books. This series is very near and dear to my heart and I still have all the original run I bought as a kid. Been trying to track down all the variants and obscure ones! There's a lot of fans out there I'm sure.

Thanks for that! For some reason CLZ has them listed as two seperate books!

I'm not surprised. All the back cover variations made tracking a little difficult - I don't think the word 'Checkers' appeared anywhere on the book so it would make sense that someone would refer to it as the 'Gameboy' version.

I was in my 30s and had a great time collecting them. I think I managed to get everything in the end for the first USM run. It was a big thing then, the Ultimate range - something different. Good luck :)

I know the inside cover says "Checkers G" .

In retrospect I agree. I thought enough of them to get the white #1, but seeing it still sell for what I pretty much paid years ago has me thinking it is either nostalgia (or not so much) but maybe more the reputation of Bendis.

That said, that title has "meaning" to me in that when I 1st started going again to the LCS, they were the 1st cgc and 9.8's I had ever seen or held. Around 2014.

It took me a while to get accustomed to it, but the LCS I was visiting had periodic BIN slab sales at $15 per slab, and that is when I picked some up for the 1st time. I was curious. One was even Signature Series, and it made me want to investigate, just how a "yellow label" worked and etc.

Long story to say, Ultimate Spider-man was a decision maker when it came to a lot of things for me lol

That's incredible! I didn't even know there was a blank sketch variant for issue #100 🤦

I need to get my mess together. I JUST finally started finding NEWSSTAND editions in the wild. I've been looking for YEARS and have never come across them until last week

The '100 Project', I think it was called. 100 artists did a blank sketch each and they had them all in a TPB. I had to bid big and got lucky.

They'll keep you busy. Check out the site link I posted earlier - a friend of mine put it together. It will have every USM known on it.

A few images from my old collection - some of the harder ones to get (at the time, not sure about now):

Are those printed sketches in the book, or are they actual sketch covers that are floating around out there?

The TPB prints images of all the original artist sketches. I had a one of a kind Deodato, and sold it. Like a lot of books I've sold over the years, it's probably worth a bomb now.

I didn't see it anywhere in the lists on that site, but do you know of he has newsstands listed. Or a link for newsstands. It's been incredibly difficult trying to find out which newsstands existed and which don't.

This last weekend at a flea market in nowhere Ontario, Canada I found a newsstand I didn't even know existed until I saw it for my own eyes
