Non-CGC Signature Series Jim Lee Autograph
1 1

3 posts in this topic

I have an X-Men #1 signed by Jim Lee. It’s my prized possession. I got it when he made an appearance at a comic book store in Concord, CA back in September 1991. I even got the bookmark it came with mentioning the event. I was 11 years old at the time.

I really want to get it graded. Mostly because it’s my favorite comic book I own. It reminds me of why I fell in love with the X-Men. But I am told it would get a green label…the same label that other books get for cut or missing pages.

Is getting it graded even worth it? Would the green label tarnish the value of my favorite book in my collection? Are there any other options to validate the signature?

Hello!

Thank you for contacting us. If the signing is not witnessed by an authorized CGC witness and directly submitted for grading, then the signature cannot be authenticated for Signature Series. Testimonials, photographs, video recordings, certificates of authenticity, or any other proof of signing are not accepted.

Any items that have already been signed would not qualify for the Signature Series label. In most cases, they would receive a green Qualified label. This allows the graders to ignore the signature for grading purposes and the book is not downgraded for the writing. Label Description | CGC (cgccomics.com)

At or below a 6.0 the writing/signature on the cover no longer has a significant impact on the grade and our graders may feel it is not necessary to qualify the grade. They will factor the signature into grade and the book would receive a Universal (blue) label with the same notation of “name on cover in marker”.

Please do not send in COAs. Retain them for your records as they are not needed for grading and may not be returned to you.

More information on our Signature Series Program can be found on CGC Signature Series.

Thank you!

Slabbing into a green label adds zero value imo. There are other companies that grade and donsig verification but honestly if it is your prized possession and you aren’t looking to sell just put it in a nice Mylar.

I also have numerous Lee sigs from when I was 10-12 years old that I’d never sell
