Next con I’m slipping all the dealer booths this note. I’ll report back what I get to settle this once and for all.

Buying a dealer a coffee, donut, danish would go a lot farther then pushing me a note.

Have you have seen a food frenzy when a promoter provides some breakfast food like bagels or donuts?

As I've said there are more then a few dealers that live on the happy meal diet

You must have quite the Happy Meal Toy Collection. Is that what makes you so popular on the playground?

I snuck a can of Guinness into a show as a present for Simon Bisley. He gave me a free sketch and we had a really nice conversation.  Ran into him at another show two years later and he didn't remember me.  I was crushed. It was a decade ago, but I remember it as if it was only yesterday.

I typed it in my last post, but deleted, cause it might not be as "funny" in this instance, but are you telling me "boardies aren't my friends?" Lol :roflmao:

It made me think of who I've defended before that couldn't take "constructive criticism", because I've been there on both the right and wrong sides...

In the end, if you dont get a discount it doesn't necessarily mean they're your "enemy" either.

it may be a dream world, but i like to think were all going to end up with the same goal in the end with comics and ephemera, how you get there, like anything, will build character and help your overall spiritual well being.

We can get discouraged in the day to day and generalize, but the guy did a misnomer to act like his interaction with a dealer was one and done, which is where that guy was coming from and one sided not indicating how the dealer felt about the transaction, and then to generalize it as gospel. ???:sorry:

It's a non comment, which I'd love to hear he just had a bad day, cause truly I'm sure dealers have heard worse than this guy by and by. Lol

This should really say "in the end,  If you don't get the deal you want it just means we couldn't come to an agreement in price.  It isn't personal,  I just can meet your definition of a "deal".

Amen. That's why I said he may have had a bad day or a slump with deals, but then to stand on a soap box or preach. It could spiral out to no one's benefit, and I'm glad that you have the presence of mind to keep peaceful.

I tried not to speak too much of actual feelings, not knowing myself personally those involved (although ive bought from you, idk you personally) but for him to preach as though he had foreknowledge about all the personalities to say definitively one way or another, and then to be specific about the particulars while apparantly not knowing the dealers and based on one transaction.

incensed spiralling could happen, = bad day imo lol

My experience says that "anyone with experiences similar could see and note this wasn't meant as a slight against anyone in a personal matter". I'd hope that for both sides  :)

@blazingbob:cheers:

Lol I don't really wax eloquent.

Maybe "his viewer's needed reminding, if they follow his soap box and what he's said in the past? Idk"

Part of me is incensed by the singling out, but who knows if it'll continue and I don't want to contribute to that. Such a non comment that seems so duh, but every situation is different and some hopefully will try to pay it forward, especially if they got a "deal." 🙏

This guy was walking around at heroes.  If you think he is a person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed in the videos, he is even a bigger POS in person.

Guy is a classic Narcissist.  Zero ability to accept any blame for his actions, blames others, no empathy, and creates these videos to feed his supply from a bunch of other d-bags that watch them.

Case in point just look at these videos where the dude gets kicked out of TWO shops for trying to sell to customers or buy a customer's books:

Response from the owner of Basement Comics:

"Customer was one of the biggest goofs I’ve ever seen. Came in with a camera strapped to his chest trying to seem important. Then never asked if it was ok to film, never introduced himself, nothing, just self entitled young goof, so I started messing with him right away. Let’s call him Strap On. So ol Strap On had a backpack full of common modern graded books and I simply said not interested, so he got mad that I didn’t make him look good for his stupid channel that nobody smart would ever watch. Then I tell Strap On I just moved and still don’t have tags on anything and to just ask, and he got mad. Then he asks about a 1st Spider Gwen which you can’t touch for less than $500 in high grade, so I give him a price, he got mad. Then Strap On pulled the number one cardinal sin of comic shops, he tried to sell his bookbag full of modern graded books to my customers in my store. Big Strap On claims to be an expert , guess not. So I kicked him out, and he got mad again, so he’s leaving this review. This is what local stores have to deal with when the comic con comes to town. You know you’re trash if the last thing you say on the way out is “This is going on YouTube”? , I hope so, so everyone can see how stupid and childish this guy is! The nerve, guys like this is exactly why I didn’t want to open back up to the public.

Ps- Now after a few days of research I’ve learned this guy is a YouTuber who thinks he knows more about the comic industry then the vets, and is a mark for our local competition, so now it makes sense that he was probably told all about us and was sent here by the goof zone. We are an old school style comic shop, we actual collect comics and have been in the business for almost 30 years. We don’t buy or sell online, we don’t do overpriced comic cons run by goofs, we don’t watch or need hipster advice, our prices and selection are the best in town, and we are not CGC marks, we are real comic collectors and have a real comic shop, not a goof zone for goofs like this!!! We collected comics before the internet existed and not a single other comic “dealer” in this valley, has a personal collection back stock like The Basement, the store he loves came out of nowhere and has no respect or credibility amongst comic legends in this town. Dudes like this are cancers to any hobby or business. Instead of listening to the long time dealers he listens to and gets tricked by dudes nobody knows or listens to. According to his channel and his reviews, he’s just a bitter little smuck who probably got ripped off one time cuz he doesn’t know anything, and now he’s after the comic business. I’ll be looking for your YouTube video, and I’ll make sure to make a rebuttal video of my own. We have an entire filming studio and Pro Wrestling arena in the back of the shop, plus my security footage, the part where he runs so fast out the front door when I came out from the counter was priceless, we can make a hilarious reenactment!!! Gotta find a little balding hunchback to play Strap On, anybody interested?"

Another YouTubers experience at Basement Comics:

Amazing the difference when you aren't a person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed.

@DR.X and @blazingbob made great points about Mylar and taking a book out of the bag.  Returning 5.500 in restored books is what can happen when you don't:

There are countless other videos out there where this person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed bag films himself trying to fleece people or "just a low ball" as he tries to call it and then gets pissed at them when they don't do what HE WANTS.  He also has this theory that there are "collectors" setup at shows who will pay over GPA for his books but he has yet find these plentiful unicorns and instead is offended that dealers would offer less than GPA for HIS books (while of course just throwing a low ball offer their way.)

I was appalled when I started watching his videos (and haven't until I saw this thread.) @blazingbob is a great dealer, enjoyed buying from him at Motor City from 2015-2019ish.  It royally pissed me off that he took shots at a dealer for being a insufficiently_thoughtful_person himself.  @FlyingDonut 's advice is good.  Just don't let him anywhere near your booth.

I probably should have figured it is the guys shtick, and to think it was a passing comment was naive on my end.

Ya lets see any of the "dealers" who were giving in to this, I'm sure his videos aren't plentiful in that area, unless prearranged off camera?
