As far as I can tell, they are still in business. www.theastonishfactory.com has a messageboard where Mike Kunkel (Herobear's artist) posts regularly. He's a pretty awesome guy.

Did you read the Imaginaries title?

 

Kind of fun and in the same idea.

I didn't read the Imaginaries but I'll have to check it out. I haven't heard of a Herobear sequel (much to my dissapointment)
