I knew the Immoral Models was a cut above (as far as artistry), looked it up and it's Lou Marchetti. The redhead is great, but the schmoe in the background isn't nearly as well done. A couple of new scanning digests that fell in a box of beater paperbacks. These late crime digests aren't my usual waters, but I thought I'd explore. The graphics are very cool on this. Also a very twisty run, going from all L.B. Cole WWII crime digests, to a run of L.B. Cole romances, including 4 pb sized, then to a long run of ultra thin paper cover digests that include rare Whittington originals and some wild JD books, highlighted by many Marchetti covers. ageofsilver Posted May 7 Share Posted May 7 The digests are just so much fun to collect. As a child of the fifties and sixties, I find the cover art and stories right up my street. Of course, they still are much more affordable than their brothers the pulps. I used to buy dozens at a time (in high grade) from Ray Bowman at 3 to 5 dollars a piece. Very fine was his highest grade. If you are interested, check out the current bid for the 18 issue run of Super-Science Fiction at Heritage. Great Emshwiller and Freas covers, in nice condition. Very expensive, but as @Robot Man likes to say, what if it was a comic with that cover. I think I should take a look at eBay. Pretty damn cool little digest. Not familiar with the author, a Joseph Barry Lake. It looks like Joe Barry had a series of Mystery House books that were reprinted in Fiction House pulps. Numerous books in the short Phantom digest series by Harry Whittington, Robert Saber, and Day Keene. Popular Post Surfing Alien Posted May 10 Popular Post Share Posted May 10 This sits at the Top Of The Bill with "Homicide Hotel" and "Satan's Widow" in the Phantom Books world imho, although they're all great. Unlike those two, "Swamp Kill" has great kinetic action to it.
