What does a subscription crease do to the grade of a comic?

The effect of ANY specific blemish/defect on condition grade ALWAYS varies, depending on the "otherwise" grade of the book.  For example, a missing page will result in a 9.5 grade point drop on a comic that's otherwise 10.0 MT.  That same missing page will cause a 0.5 grade point drop on a specimen that's otherwise 1.0 FR.  And the specific characteristics of the blemish/defect are also generally relevant.  For example:

  • How long is the subscription crease (does it run the full length of the cover or not)?
  • How long is the color-breaking portion of the crease?
  • Is the crease thick or very narrow/thin?
  • Is the crease on the front cover only, the back cover only, or does it affect the entire book?

Condition grading is part art (qualitative) and part science (quantitative).  Don't expect the "ingredients" to be defined as precisely as a recipe from your favorite cookbook.  :foryou:
