Now WHY ON EARTH would they replace the original cover with this one?

French Canadian Hulk #181 copy. These are EXTREMELY rare and Dave owned two of them before giving one to a friend.

Again with the crooked pics. doh!

We had a discussion about Whitman variants and why they never seem to have taken off the way other variants do.

I have some collecting friends who are sitting on these and still expecting them to really take off at some point.

Was Max Headroom popular in the US the way he was in Canada? I vividly remember the show growing up but it started in the UK and so I'm not sure how popular it was in the US.

Apparently the first CGI computer personality.

I vaguely remember him being a deal with Coke for a time. I vaguely remember him having to do with a show called Silver Hammer", which I hardly ever think about. I can remember the name of the short lived show than I can Max Headroom, for the life of me Google was no help with that when I've tried. :roflmao:

Edit to say, maybe I'm remembering the show Max Headroom without knowing, but could have sworn there was one called silver hammer as well. Both are vague late 80s early 90s memories as a 8to 10 year old

A meeting between Dave and I wouldn't be a meeting if we didn't share our love of Porsches.

I've been a lifelong fan since about 1985 and even worked for them at one time.

Unfortunately, I'm not longer a fan of the new models.

After the mid 2000's the models began to gain weight, look bloated and get more luxirious. Something I am not interested in.

I'm more interested in a rough, bucking bronco that is loud, obnoxious and difficult to drive, making it all the more rewarding.

This is the first appearance of the Porsche Model 901, later renamed the 911 because Peugeot had the rights to cars numbered with a zero in the middle. lol

That car was the start of a 6 decade dynasty. :cloud9:

In the automotive world, this was the auto equivalent of Led Zeppelin's 1st album or Wolverine's 1st appearance!

We finished the day with a night on the town for some dinner at an incredible French / Italian restaurant named Melrose in Montreal. (worship)

That is a killer pizza, drizzled with honey, the best French Canadian Poutine you've ever had and some fried something or other I can't remember. lol

And that, as they say, is that.

Killer weekend with a friend of 20 years geeking out over junk.

The title of this thread was apt.

Dave has the patience of a saint and is bargain hunter like none I've ever seen.

He's pretty much thrifted all of these things.

That's a wrap!

@Microchip That's a great pic of you and I, isn't it? :D

Max Headroom was somewhat huge here for a while.  He had his own movie, tv show, did ads for Coke, etc.  I'd choose Art of Noise of Max Headroom, though.  Watch and listening to Max talk always had me worried I'd have a seizure.  I remember when I saw Matt Frewer (who played Max Headroom) on Star Trek : TNG the first time, I said "that guy kinda looks like Max Headroom". lol.

I’m guessing the one with the fried egg lights is your favorite.

I actually don't dislike those as much as I used to, but people change out the orange lamps for clear ones these days and the early 2000 models start to look a lot more like later models.

I just can't get into those later models.

I grew up on 911s and 930s from the 80s and 90s and those things were raucous.

ps. That's not a 911.

I only drive cars that come in Male.

I actually think it may grade out a little higher but yeah. Those books are still picking up steam.
