thoughts? wouldn't touch a 'Bob Kane' sketch with a ten foot pole, one of the most faked artists out there. check out this thread for discussion on similar pieces:

Anytime I see any of these Bob Kane threads it always makes me think of this story.

Hey, the first time I talked to an art dealer, I said "I would like to buy pages from the Galactus trilogy," please.

Now THAT was greeted with ridicule.

Don't sweat asking - you flushed out the Clown Story, which is always good to revisit. Kane might be the most forged/faked of all comic book artists (up there with Seuss, Addams, Gary Larson and Schulz).

Never ridiculous to ask about art that seems squirrelly, in fact this is a good place to do it.

I’ve long written off Bob Kane Batman stuff based on this cost/benefit analysis:

benefit: having something drawn by one of the creators of Batman does sound, as a concept, very cool.

cost:

A) most of the art is fake

B) it’s only faked because it’s so simple and awful that you really can’t make a “bad” fake

C) nearly every story you read about the guy makes you less and less excited to see a daily reminder of his existence on your wall.

So while I love to celebrate the character, there are lots of other artists I seek out for a quintessential Batman piece of art.

But that’s just me.

I agree. One of the benefits of being a collector, is that you get to choose who’s legacy is worthy of your adding to your collection - your own personal comic art hall of fame. Given what I heard of Bob Kane, I’m completely happy not to have him represented in mine.

I don't know. Depending on price , I would probably want one of those infamous signed clown paintings ..

Maybe I need to rethink my stance… you might be right, a good chuckle every time you see that clown painting might be worth it.

If you like this one, another full length version popped up today on EBay Europe for only 789 Euro’s. I would post it, but I can’t figure how to do it from an iPad.
