I don’t have the book in hand right now but it does look suspicious in hand. Also because this was sold to me by the person in Question AND he solicited multiple other books to me at least 1 of which is in the infamous 350, it warrants extra scrutiny. I also have a lot of info I need to share with cgc to try and aid in the investigation

Yep, I'm also a strong proponent of EVERY graded book the scammer has touched being put on the list, including this one.  Just wondering if this trimming issue can be taken off the table.

Also, I really don’t buy big books on eBay it’s just not my thing. I only buy at shows directly from dealers or other collectors. I am old and analog for the most part. Lol My interaction with him had been really from comic book shows where we exchanged info

Thanks for all you're doing to help solve the situation and bring this loser/scammer to accountability.

The problem is, anyone that thinks this is just this one guy is nuts. If he has done it, chances are others have as well….just wow. disaster

Indeed.

Maybe it's a good idea if we all work together to try and figure out if that is feasible, without relying on CGC to give us all of the answers.

Right now, he is just the scammer.  The loser part will only come from bringing him to accountability.  It's really on CGC to make sure he comes out the loser.

I can only speak for myself but if this book or any other I may have pops as dirty, I will seek every legal and civil remedy

If it's any consolation I would bet what you have is a genuine article.  Metro likely had it slabbed with the collection (assuming it was their find?); maybe it changed hands a couple of times

This page is missing some images but I doubt a provenanced / pedigree / special collection book shows up in this scandal

What did it sell for at various points vs what you paid?  Profit may have been the only motive

Hoo boy…

so I use WorthPoint, which allows searching through historical records of eBay sales going back to the beginning.

i searched for a phrase briva3 uses in all their descriptions… "the $$$ and hard work has already been done for you”

the result? Over 1200 listings…. Hundreds upon hundreds of high grade books too. So many friggin spider-man 300’s.

This is devastating.

listings go back to 2015

I'm still catching up but if this is true and CGC has only listed about 300 or so known tampered certs.... Ugh, can we ever trust a CGC 9.8 ASM 300 as being legit?

Why not release the list of books he offered you?  I don't think the person/people should be named until more proof is unearthed, but suspect books can be named, especially if CGC doesn't have them on their list.

@comicwiz, @agamoto, are either of you able to find any of these prior sales on WorthPoint?  We could at least verify if the same book stays with the cert number.  The strange cut along the bottom should be a dead giveaway.

Thank you so much sir 😀

Excuse the delay, I'm just seeing this now. I'm needing some clarification. This (Fantastic Four (1961) #2 CGC 8.0 - Cert: 1175918001) isn't one of the books on the impacted list, correct?

@mrd160 are you able to post a current photo of yours please (back and front). I have a comparison pic from a 2018 listing to see if anything stands out.

Right, that was confusing me. I am at a point on the list that has allowed me to pause and examine things on this request. If you'd post a current photo of your FF 2, I can compare it with a pic from a 2018 listing. I can at the very least confirm if there is anything remarkable or discernably different. Because it's not on the list, I am otherwise not able to provide any additional info. If however I can pinpoint something different, I can post more details.

Now that I’m able to see the original comic connect listing, it looks to me like the same book. But because this book was sent to me by someone that is known to have issues right now along with other books that are on the CDC list it’s still bears investigation. I will still be contacting CDC on Monday to tell them everything I know

Thanks, I'm not seeing any discernable difference. The dates below are what I'm seeing for recorded sales.

6/7/2018
5/3/2018
5/5/2014

The image below corresponds with the 5/3/2018 sale I highlighted. If it was going to change, it would have happened at the 6/7/2018 listing. As I was not able to mine that listing, seeing yours is an encouraging sign.

Agreed….here are some of them that were offered to me. I know at least 1 was on the cgc list. Some have his personal info in the pic, so I won’t share those.

To make matters worse vis-a-vis being able to trust any slab, you then layer on overgenerous grading (I make the assumption that this could be legit) - this is an 8.5?!!?

At least the bid price seems to indicate that people at least look at the books before buying…

I can’t say if these books were involved in the scam necessarily because I don’t know, I’m just saying that the person in question offered me these books privately
