I think you’re going to need a bigger wallet than 25k. It sold for over 26k all the way back in 2010. To put that in perspective the Walking Dead mini series was still many months away from its TV premiere. COVID was a decade away still. Marvel had yet to launch Thor, Cap or the Avengers into movie franchises. The iPhone and smart phones in general were still trying to push the flip phones out in their 3g world and we were playing PlayStation 3. I’d be shocked if it stayed in the 25k ballpark back here in 2024…

I suspect you're 100% correct.

Dracula,  a Russ Jones book with art by Al McWilliams   Ballantine U2271      $35

Awesome cover and interiors.   A very tough comic/mag interior vintage pb.   Scarce in any condition.

About Fine. Spine has a bit of lean and some stresses but covers are otherwise pretty nice without hard creases.

It took me over two years to find a copy in decent shape. Nice pickup!

Another "Stone Cold Classic"

Peeping Tom by Jack Woodford Novel Library No. 6   1948    $45

Iconic peephole cover. My cover art crazy friends and I have been trying to figure out who "RB" is forever since he did several iconic Avons around this early time but no one knows :(

Fine. Tight and solid with great color. Spine has slant and some stressing but covers are smooth with light bends, mostly on the back.

Taking a late night through your thread here and sitting on my wallet heh heh -

I can't resist a mystery, though -

Copyrights assigned to Ann Cantor (we were actually talking about that the other day), but even a cursory look at covers she's got credit for shows *a number* of artists at work.  She ran an art studio, you know how that goes *work for hire*.

RB looks to be RG (the sig is clearer on a number of other Avons).  Steve over at Flickr assigns the same artist to The Girl with the Hungry Eyes and French Summer and Midsummer Passion.  I dunno about Midsummer Passion - I don't see the the sig, and it seems too good (excuse for the bluntness).  Definitely not my wheelhouse, but I'd pick some other possible 47-49 Avons/Novel Library books by the same artist, too.  I assume this was a young artist getting better with practice but that's a dangerous assumption to make.  All sorts of possibilities where to find these artists with Avon - Short Story Monthly, Rex Stout's Mystery Monthly, Avon Western Reader...

I had no luck as far as low-hanging fruit in finding a pulp artist with those initials working in that period, though, so I'm crying uncle, and leave it to you paperback fiends (shrug)

Appreciate your eyes Beau - yeah, it's an enigma, and I remember now that you mentioned it to probably be "RG"  Some of us thought that "RB" could be Robert Bonfils, since he did a ton of commercial art in the late 1940's before getting into sleaze, and the women's fingers look just like his women, but the "RG" is clearer on the other books like "Hungry Eyes" so that got shot down.

The host is dragging his butt out of bed. Went and played guitars with a few buddies in the garage after listing last night, and you know how that goes

Buddies and rock 'n' roll always take priority. :headbang:

False Night by Algis Budrys   Lion Books No. 230   1954   $12

A really good post-apocalypse novel and one of the small number of Sci Fi titles published in Martin Goodman's Lion line. Cool wrecked New York City cover.

Fine minus/Fine.  Tight Square and glossy, just that reader crease detracts but a nice copy over all.
