Ive never seen this, and dont know if its common or not...
i own BOTH the MegaCon Foil (399 limited) and C2E2 Embossed Foil (80 limited) Exclusive Versions of the Thundercats #1 2024
i was looking to send in my C2E2 Version for slabbing and noticed that some had already started to hit ebay. but after checking the cert numbers noticed there were already about 40 books listed... hmm, that just seemed odd, that half of the population of a limited print would already be slabbed, so i found some of the MegaCon versions to check its census... hmm exact same numbers of submissions..... after looking a bit further into this, saw that BOTH the Reg Foil and Embossed Foil are on the same Census. so i reached out to CGC and was told its because the mfg of the books put them out with the same "legal indicia information" so they were obligated to put them together. as im still rather new into this realm of collecting, is this a common occurrence? i kind of feel like that cheats out the scarcity of the books being graded. yeah i know its till only a total of 479 books in the world, but a census of only 80 is even more scarce.... and now if i submit my book and it happens to come back as a 9.9 (fingers crossed) i wouldnt be able to say for positive if its the ONLY C2E2 9.9, as there are already others listed, are they MegaCon versions? C2E2? maybe im just making a mountain out of a mole hill? id just like to to hear some other perspectives on the matter... ive included some of the examples i found earlier

This does happen.  You will need to contact someone at CGC to help them understand the distinction between the two books.

i did, i started an "Ask CGC" topic, they removed it and posted directly to me, so then i made this one so others can see, and maybe help educate me on proper procedure, or if this is just how its going to be?

@CGC Mike Can you help provide some direction about what needs to be done here, because customer service is clearly confused. These are two distinct variants -- see the back covers in the high res scans. There's never been a requirement that variants somehow have to have unique indicia in order to be categorized separately. Indeed, the overwhelming majority do not!

I will e-mail the database specialist, and someone from management, and see if we can get this straightened out.  @forbiddenwon

Here is what I was told:

I've looked into it and here's what the story is-

Both books appear to be identical front-and-back, with the exception being that one of them is embossed. When the graders get a copy of the book and they see the image on their computer screen of what the book is supposed to look like, it appears to be the same. To further complicate the issue, both books have the same UPC code (which the graders often use as a failsafe to ensure they have the correct variant) on the back cover.  So there was no indication for us previously that there were 2 identical-appearing versions.

Both books state that they are Big Time Collectibles exclusives, but neither one states that they are exclusive to any convention.  So while the "flat cover" version is labeled in our database as "Big Time Collectibles Edition C", I have now added the embossed version, and it will be named "Big Time Collectibles Edition D".  So from this point forward the two versions will be labeled as such by CGC.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I hope that this satisfies everyone.

"Obligated to put them together"??? Does that mean that Whitman, Mark Jewelers, newsstand, and printing error variants are "obligated to be put together"? Come on, man... Where's the common sense here? The census is not for estimating comics based on indicia. It's for estimating differences that collectors care about, right? We have a wonderful tool here. Let's keep it as accurate as we can. Sheesh...!

Did you miss the part where these are now being separated in the census?  (BTC Edition C and BTC Edition D)

Thank You for getting a resolution to this @CGC Mike while i do understand the limitations that could be put on you by vendors information, like this book, i can appreciate that CGC is at least willing to try and do something to help.
granted the initial response i got via DM did come across kind of, "oh well" at least to me, knowing the issue was looked into further detail goes a long way.
approx when will that option be avail for selection? i just looked and still list only the A-B-C versions?

So, the census updates every Tuesday?  Maybe Wednesday.  Everything that ships out Friday will show up then.  So, I am hoping this will update then as well.  If it is not showing up for you on the OSF by Wednesday, let me know and I will try to get it added ASAP.
