Action 252 Pressing Candidate?
1 1

I won this on Ebay recently. It was sold as a VG to FN which -- frankly -- I have my doubts about. But I still like the looks of it and got a good deal, so I'm happy. Anyway, I'm going to send it to get graded but am on the fence about pressing first (probably CFP based on recommendations). I know it has a lot of unfixable defects (water stains, color breaking creases, etc). But even a small grade bump would be great and I'm not super concerned about long wait times. I guess my biggest worry is damage during pressing. I'm new to pressing so I guess I just wanted to check -- are places like CFP pretty good about honesty assessing if pressing techniques will damage a comic and will they avoid doing it if they think its too risky? What do you think? Fairly safe and worth it for a book like this? Thanks for any and all feedback!!

Happy is good.  (thumbsu  However, would you still be happy if your book came back from Sarasota as a CGC 2.5 or CGC 3.0?  hm

2.5 is sort of what I’m currently expecting. Got it for under a thousand, so still below what a lot of 2.5’s seem to go for. If anyone has any thoughts about my specific question (pressing) I’d love to hear! Thanks all.

A press will straighten up the spine roll and fix some of the non color breaking creases. It will certainly help.

But it wont address the water staining and color breaking creases.  I think a 3.0 would be about the top of the line.

Pressing is not going to remove the various stains or restore ink to the various color-breaking abrasions and creases.  So I personally don't see an upside.  But there's definitely a risk, since rust staining around a staple weakens the paper and makes cover detachment at that staple more likely.  That being said, you can always count on CFP to be 100% honest and professional.  :foryou:

The upside is minimal. The chance of additional damage happening outweighs any improvement that would happen.

I really appreciate the honest advice @joeypost!! I’ll take it. And I look forward to using your services some other time!!

Such an iconic book but I don't think you'll ever get better than a 2.0 on this.  There's a lot of water damage that appears to go through the book and the staples look very rusty.

agreed

I have been browsing Ebay lately and it frustrates how bad most the sellers grading is.
