@Tri-Color Brian Thanks for breaking up your covers into individual posts.  If we all do that going forward it will be easy to tally the likes and see which covers are considered the strongest.  Otherwise I was thinking of summarizing the covers at some point then polling directly for votes.  We could allow 3/5/10 votes and see what happens

Maybe something like this. Depictions of American soldiers from the Revolutionary War through WW II.

At the risk of over-posting I'll speak out the heresy:  I consider this a better example than the Cap #1

OK, here's one I'm not sure about...either "like it" or tell me why it's wrong...hm

No, no!  You cannot be 'wrong' here.

I don't see it as iconic, and I get a symbolic aspect, but honestly, compare this one to the Green Lama Raboys.  Your call :)

But that's what this thread is all about - digging up and exposing people to these kinds covers and letting them decide what rings their chimes.

Oh, that one works for me!

The dripping blood off the hands and hole in the sole are nice touches

Now that's a confusing symbolic cover - Airboy shooting a Jap through a swastika?

If the artist meant for the orange background and white spotlight to represent the rising sun, he lost me.

Just came across this thread! It's a great idea ...not sure how I overlooked it... and there have been some awesome covers presented.

This may be the most subtle WWII patriotically symbolic cover, coming out less than a month after we entered the war in '42... :x

But iconic covers ...umm covers a lot of ground. For purely symbolic WWII depictions these Quality books are giants... :manhero:

...this being the more obvious Axis engaging U.S. war representation...

That said, the most iconic WWII books (IMO) depict Hitler being humiliated in some fashion, ...and my personal favorite has gotta be MM #46humantorch.gif(edited)_MM_46_(SF)(3).jpeg.f3df343609e73fef46994e380eadffaf.jpeg
