I used to order from them years ago. I placed 5 orders from 2019 to to 2022 and every order had extensive delays.

I did end up receiving everything and in good condition except the fifth order was about 5 months late(just a raw book order).

I requested to cancel that and they did so within a few days.

I am a simple comic collector and I have had the same problem with Mutant Beaver Comics. On July 8, 2024 I asked about the status of a signed slab I ordered and paid for back in August 2023. I was told the order could not be filled and they would issue a full refund via PayPal at the end of July. On August 1 I sent them an email asking about the status of the refund. They responded immediately and told me refunds would begin on August 6. I sent another email on August 13 asking for an update. Again Mutant Beaver Comics responded immediately stating all refunds would be completed by the end of August. I waited and then sent a follow up email on September 9 inquiring about the status of the refund. Again they responded immediately but told me refunds were coming but it was according to their timelines. No other information regarding the refund was offered. Obviously I do not expect to receive the refund but I will not sit idle. My next steps are to contact The Canadian Competition Bureau, the Prince Edward Island Consumer Affairs Office, the Better Business Bureau and the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre which all have processes to receive and review these types of complaints. I will also likely report this to the Charlottetown police as a theft/fraud complaint as this is where the business is located (25 Hunter Lane to be exact). Again I am not expecting a refund but it is the principal of the matter and perhaps steps may be taken to warn others about how Mutant Beaver Comics conducts business and prevent other thefts.

Any chance you can block out the personal info and post a screen shot of this correspondence? We need to make sure that accusations are verifiable and verified.

It looks like MBC is another fake business that popped up during the pandemic and now that business is slowing down they don't have an influx of new capital so they're unable to keep the scam going. But it's real important that we make sure we only rally behind verified accusations and your account is brand new so we have to take that into consideration.

Oh and here's another fun data point. Over 9 months ago, these same kinds of complaints were already cropping up on reddit. A guy asked r/comicbookcollecting about MBC and half the comics were about their slow shipping and the other half just called them thieves: https://old.reddit.com/r/comicbookcollecting/comments/18jqf5u/any_thoughts_about_mutant_beaver_comics/

I ordered some Dell'Otto Punisher variants from MBC back in 2018.  After a few months of waiting and getting the run around on the order status, I finally sent an email asking them to cancel and that I would initiate a charge back through my bank.  Damndest thing is that I got a tracking number the next day.  I noticed that after the release date for the issues, they were ending up on ebay with real pics (not stock pics), yet MBC always claimed their shipment was never in.  These books were raw and not waiting to be graded.  In any case, once you mess with the money, things might start happening.

This is it. It looks like whoever is running MBC started a ponzi scheme in a bull market, and with all the numbers going up, his weird scheme was sustainable. But the second values and sales volume start to slip he, robbing Peter is no longer profitable enough for him to actually pay Paul.

But does anyone else notice a real sketchy detail in this conversation? MBC doesn't exist. It's not a real thing. It's text on a website. As far as I can tell no one has a mentioned a single person's name involved in this business. Their website has no "about us" section. If you search corporate registries you get the name "Patrick Green" and if you check out MBC's Facebook page you see a "Patrick Green" commenting as the owner.

Has anyone actually had interactions with Patrick Green? Does he go to conventions? Does he have any footprint in the comic book community besides his brand retail business? How was he getting a reliable supply of every single convention exclusive?

Just the fact that they offered all these exclusives and can't deliver is -poor customer service, whether they deliver other ones or not.

A 50% fulfillment rate on orders is horrid for any company, anywhere.

This is wild! It starts with them telling you that you'll have the refund by the end of July and ends this week with them saying "You will receive your refund on our timeline, not yours". The end of July was THEIR timeline! lol. Thanks for posting the correspondence. It shows the expected trajectory of a crook. Starts off professionally enough but get's oddly aggressive when they realize the jig is up. This looks real bad.

Translation: we don't have enough money in our paypal account to issue your refund because we have maxed out our ability to borrow and our business insurance has dropped us, and we are still trying to rob Peter to pay you.

Why not provide the support and file a chargeback request with PayPal?  I mean, that is the reason for using Goods & Services after all.

I think this is the second thread about pre order variant CGC 9.8 comics from Businesses and the same patterns are seen for me.

Seriously, this business model is unacceptable. I think the biggest tell that these guys are doing something wrong are the convention exclusives. Those being sold online means they are NOT convention exclusives and something shady has to be happening on between the convention and the publisher.

Can anyone explain to me how it's possible for someone to pre-sell a convention exclusive without some kind of deception or outright fraud happening on the back end? Yuck...

I was just searching for records of MBC being at New York Comic Con since folks said he had attended. I worked the whole weekend and never saw an MBC booth. What I found was kinda disappointing. Very Gary, who seemed like one of the "good guy" streamers, was shilling for Mutant Beaver Comics last year in the description of his NYCC video. I skimmed the video and didn't see him a Mutant Beaver Booth but he's got their promo link at the top of the description.
