several times i think that being a collector/comics fan is also a synonim of a non stop "must buy this and get that and that...". so, did you ever thought about just stoping for a while and enjoy what you already have?!

not stoping because of financial or other issues, but insteaad of spending time on hunting/buying to "put away" fever mode...just relaxing, picking up your long boxes and feel like a kid in x-mas morning.

from my side, after a few very nice bulky buyings in 2005 (still waiting for an AMS long delaied one - and yes i'm worried as hell) i've just decided to enjoy what i have...overral i'm very happy with what i already own (even of course i end up sighing for a small few comics).

it's great to spend your free time being/feeling has a kid among comics...

regards

I read every comic I buy. I am always on the hunt for new books. I sit down once a week or so and just sift through different boxes of books and enjoy the covers and sometimes reread different issues. Its very calming sitting there. Takes my mind off the stresses of the real world and brings back memories of a simpler time. thumbsup2.gif

I mostly collect for the covers and nostalgia feel these days, but I still love owning my collection. I have all my graded books scanned, so I can often browse them.

Ditto. I also have them all in one folder and use that as my screen saver. It's a constant parade of comics on the screen if I can ever stay off the comp long enough for the screen saver to come on insane.gif

No...unless you're living in a bubble, the current evvironment outweighs being able to just enjoy your collection...

I truly hope a time comes where your vision becomes reality...

I totally disagree, the only way this should be your problem or the problem of a collector is if you are investor first, collector second. From what I read, the point is not to spend all your time chasing, but instead realize what you have already and enjoy it.

Because all of your comics are in a bank vault. foreheadslap.gif

Only 22 of them. As far as the rest are concerned, I just hate taking down the long boxes every other day to look at them. It puts a real strain on my back. crazy.gif

the weight an environment has (influence) is the one you accord/allow to it! smirk.gifflowerred.gif

it's up to you to be able to enjoy what you have, instead of buying and "forgetting" to buy again non stop. wink.gif

I just found my 2 1/2 year old standing on top of my FF long box ( she's not heavy enough yet to apply crushing force), so I've discovered I need to put a lock on that door, but did read "This Man, This Monster" once again-inspired by your thread of course-Thanks CC.

I'll certainly admit that being a comic book collector for me, is really overwhelmingly being a comic book buyer and seller more than anything else. I love my comics, don't get me wrong. I don't read them, but I love to collect them and enjoy the art tremendously, as well as accumulating something that I just think is cool, and that I know a little bit about. Yes, from time to time I have thought about just ceasing my buying in order to enjoy what I've got. But truth be told, except for a few books on display in my office, they just sit in dark boxes and shelves never seeing the light of day, and never being viewed by my eyes or any others (until time to sell). This may seem like a waste to some. But I guess just "having" them was my primary goal. I found what I liked (which often changes year by year), accumulated many books, and I'm happy. A little time goes on, I sell what I'm tired of and buy what I am newly interested in. This is collecting for me. So to just sit back and enjoy my books simply means that I have no contact with them. I still do take "time-out" breaks like that, and am currently on a "time-out" for buying. But I still get a little bit of joy just knowing that I have them, regardless of if I actually peruse them or not. Hey, it may not be for others, but it works for me. crazy.gif

Currently reading The Eternals, a set I've had in my collection for about 20 years and am busy buying mostly moderns now. Stuff I'll probably be reading in about 5 or 10 years from now....I mean by the time I get to it. crazy.gif

I am very much enjoying the "reading" part of the hobby. Reading runs of comics is a lot more enjoyable than waiting for a month for the story to continue.

The best part about the "collecting" part of the hobby, is most of the comics I am buying right now don't cost a whole lot.
