Last one for tonight. The composition is just insane!!!

Russ Heath insanity is :cloud9:

As clean and Heathy as it looks, I actually think it's Grandenetti!

Either way, super-person_without_enough_empathyin'.

So says the Big 5 Guide. I feel

There's definitely a Heath influence on that as you almost never see Grandenetti doing the cross-hatching that you see on that cover.

Yeah, but this is what I was talking about in my previous post about Grandenetti. No one else was doing DC war covers like Grandenetti.

Sweet book Manny! Never can go wrong with a signature by the master.

Thanks Andy and Paratrooper.

Nice avatar. I still don't know how to do that hence my boring one. Heath certainly has his devotees on this thread. Cool Heath sketch. Is that an original comic art panel? Or a specialty piece he drew for you?

What type of avatar would you like Mick? :)

Adam, you're only allowed one art misidentification every decade (it's been that long since the last one, m'thinks). It's Grandenetti all the way. . .bone structure in face, and drapery in tow. That cross hatching under the neck, though, definitely gives it a Heathen resonance.

Shep,

THAT and the others (perhaps especially the stunning OAAW 54) are some badass comics that underscore how exacting you've been. Love seein' those. They are seriously tough to get in that kinda grade, too.

Thanks Mick.. I just wish I could fill out that run in nice shape... it's gonna take forever!

I don't if any of the original creators are getting ANYTHING from the Showcase series... I could be wrong. But according to Wikipedia's entry on the series, a large part of the reason that DC are doing the Showcase books from the mid-1950s (when they started keeping comprehensive files of their reproduction artwork) to the early 1970s is that after 1975, they have to start paying royalties to the creators. There are some exceptions, but that's part of the reason they can keep the costs low.

Anyone know anything else about that? Lemme know.

Its a original sketch and personally signed by Mr. Heath he was in WWLA, unannounced attendee and his selling original art for an 8x12 headsketch is $40 and a 13x17 BW or Colored for $60-$150, some are full figure of Mlle Marie (mostly nude).

Andy,

I picked up volume one today at Grey Region in Toronto (they gave me a deal - $18.00!)

It's amazing... having all those stories back to back. Best 18 bucks I ever spent.

(Aside from two boxes of condoms in grade 12.)

I know that DC is paying royalties for the DC Archive series -- even for pre-1975 stories.
