Pedrin's the guy who published Chris Pedrin's Big-5 Information Guide (see the posts above). It's the most exhaustive book ever written about war comics and is the industry standard when it comes to cross-referenced DC war comics. Chris is a long-time collector of a variety of genres, but his first love was (and remains) DC war comics. He's been conspicuously absent for about the past decade or so because his main job (as a relief sculptor for prestigious building contracts) has kept him pretty busy.

He'd originally invented and successfully marketed a predecessor to the CGC slab known as "The Fortress" which was an extremely secure container for displaying and storing a single comic but something that a collector would purchase like mylar without the element of 3rd party grading service. Chris had some problems with the manufacturer across seas and didn't remain active in promoting it when his supplies ran out.

That's the long and short of Chris. He's a great guy who was the catalyst for much of the interest in DC war with his enthusiasm and zeal to share information through his self-titled publishing venture. For the first 7 years or so, he never missed a war comics banquet in SD; and though he didn't set up or even attend the comicon in 2002, he appeared at the killer war comics banquet (always held during the SD con) celebrating 50 years of DC war comics. He just flew down and attended the banquet as I recall. It was a helluva scene with Novick, Glanzman, Haney, Aragones, Russ Heath, Estrada, Pratt, Yeates, Ayers, and Scott Shaw all in attendance. . .and Chris was right in the middle of it. I think Shep met him at that dinner. Adam Strange, too.

Hope that helps, Fay!

Thank you very much Mick for the extensive information about Chris

Pedrin and the wealth of knowledge you guys have about comics is

incredible and especially anything related to DC War. (worship)

I love these boards and I'm still learning a handful of information every

week and I figure if I stay here long enough until were both too old to

type, I might know a tiny percentage of the information you guys know.

Thanks again.

I met Chris Pedrin at the 2002 dinner (Gotta get back for another one!) and he's a great guy. His book is certainly the best single source of war comics info out there. I refer to mine at least once a month.

Hard to believe that it came out 16 years ago!!!

Nice stuff, Fay. Love the OAAW 29. Such beautiful colors on that books. My fav in the bunch, though is the OFF 73. Grandenetti from that period is exquisite. It took some getting used-to, but Grandenetti's lines grew on me. Most of those late 10¢ and early 12¢ Grandenetti-cover OFFs are the bomb.

Great stuff every step of the way. They look like some truly pretty copies, too. Fay, you have been on quite a tear lately! :gossip:
