Update for Houston,Texas - JMV Comic Book Show Sunday June 18,2006

CHANGE OF LOCATION !

We have moved our June 18 show from the SW side of Houston to the Greenspoint area on the North Side of Houston. Our new venue site is...

Wyndham Hotel - Greenspoint

12400 Greenspoint Drive

(IH - 45 @ Beltway 8 across from the Greenspoint Mall)

The hotel website is www.wyndham.com

This a really nice upscale hotel and located across from a big mall should help the show attendance.

Our old venue site was in a semi rough area of Houston (Sharpstown area) and vendors had been asking me to move to the show to a more affluent part of Houston but I have been hesitant due to the increased cost of doing business on the Northside as opposed to the Southwest side.

I see Kevin and Aman talking all the time.

Do you think they are discussing a way to carve up the Toronto Comic market?

I am not sure if they could get together to carve up a turkey.

Glad to see that your opinion of Philly has become more posittive as the after effects settled in. (later sales from contacts made at the show).

You'll be waiting a while........show was cancelled.

I've already stated my opinion in another venue.

AND an honest thanks to sonofpromoterman for being an

honest gent and emailing me his views on the local shows.

However, Houston is the 4th largest city in the flippin' USA

[ honest, probably the best kept secret in the world ], and

we haven't had a good convention since the last Great Eastern

show in 1993[?]. Larry Taylor shows here in the '80's were

wonderful, hundreds of patrons, dozens of dealers like myself.

BUT Larry would only lay out money for small names as a

draw, and relied more on quality dealers to make his shows

a success. Tri-Star Productions tried their first comic book

convention in the George R. Brown Convention center in 92-93?

Same big hundred acre building where they hold those

big honkin' political conventions, etc, hell, even had a

Champ Car Race headquartered there a few years back.

Three of us went together and bought 60 tables, myself,

Glen of Happy Trails and Ricky of Bedrock City. We all

brought our A material to that show and it was a resounding

flop. Mark and his team have stuck to baseball and sportscard

conventions since then and have done very very well. I believe

they even have the contract on doing the sportscard Nationals.

BUT without building a solid foundation of a semi-annual show,

WITH comic personality's to draw a crowd, and ADVERTISING

on venues other than various websites, AND attracting quality

dealers at a reasonable per table/traffic count, little will change

here on the convention trail. I still have my table covers, back

issue background [ the really cool brick wall ! ], and everything

else I need, I just need a GOOD reason to do a show that I

can make money at.....

Problem here is Sonofpromotorman likes to advertise his shows here without the courtesy of a cancellation notice.........yet again.

just assume it will be cancelled and there will be no problems
