Couple of issues from the former collection:

 

Janowicz.  A beautiful Marvel and DC collection running from about 1958 to at least 1966 (with some older and newer comics bought secondhand) that didn't meet all criteria for official pedigree status.  I've replaced my scan of the FF #29 with the one from the Heritage auction, which better shows off its blazing cover colors and white cover stock.

The guy I bought my FF #30 from said he thought Ben Grimm on the cover looks like George Clooney.  Now I can’t unsee that.

This is one of the books that got be back into collecting.  I went to a friend‘s house and started talking about comics.  He’s about 20 years older than me and has collected his entire life.  I asked him to show me some of his favorite books, this was one of them.  That was in 2007.

That's an awesome story! I have a similar attachment to this issue. The company I was painting for at the time usually hired some college students for part time summer help. It was 1985 and I had just started collecting comics again. One of the summer help guys was working with me, we got to talking and my collecting comics came up. He mentioned he had some at his mom's house and that he didn't do anything with them any more. I told him if he wanted to sell them, I'd be interested. A few days later he brought them in .... about 40-50 books as I recall, all Bronze Age except 3 Silver Age books: Amazing Spider-Man #17, Fantastic Four #55 & #61. I asked how much, he said $20 and I nearly dislocated my shoulder getting my wallet out!!!    The only book of those that I still have is the Spidey, but I have since reacquired the FFs. Ever since then, those 3 comics have held a special place in my heart!!! Here's the Spidey!
