My Recent Book Purchases: Powers And Kabuki

14 posts in this topic

-Powers: The Definitive Collection Vol. 1 HC (Icon/Marvel)

-Kabuki Vol 1: Circle Of Blood

I bought both of these books yesterday and I am having a great time reading them. I finished Powers last night and I am halfway through Kabuki now.

Normally, I prefer to own the actual comic books but since these series are so far along, I intend to just buy the collected editions instead. Luckily, I work part time at Barnes & Noble (for extra spending money) and I get %30 off all the books I buy!

By the way, Powers: The Definitive Collection Vol 2 HC will be in next month's Previews and should ship in December.

i love powers, kabuki makes my eyes and head hurt

I was amazed at how good Kabuki was. It is one of the best things I have read in some time. I was at work tonight at B&N and I ordered book 2.

Pirate, I know you were looking for Powers books in the past and got some. How far along are you now? Are you going to pick up Hardcover#2?

Of all the Kabuki series, and I believe I have them all, my favorite is the beautiful and moving "Metamorphosis".

Mack and Bendis are good friends and I had the opportunity to meet them both. You could not meet two more gracious people. It's good to know that two of my admired writers/artists are also good and decent people.

Personally, I could care less if a creator of a book is nice or a , and I think it is stupid to base comic purchases on such a thing. However, if you genuinely don't care for Bendis's writing, then you shouldn't buy his stuff.

Took you awhile to respond smile.gif

Anyway, I basically agree with you. I do not like Bendis' writing in most cases, and I do tend to avoid his books. I buy New Avengers, mainly to maintain my Avengers collection (someday someone else will write this title 893crossfingers-thumb.gif). I also purchase USM TPBs. I liked Alias. That is about it.

I do disagree with it being stupid to base purchases on a creator's personality/beliefs. If a creator bumps you at a ComicCon and knocks all your recently purchased books to the floor, then turns to you laughing and tells you to "watch where you are going next time, numbnuts", would you be inclined to purchase anything of his again? If a creator tells you that child porn is ok and you should buy his book to help support his "hobby", would you?

If a creator is going to project his personality into areas outside of his actual creation for everyone to see, then they should be prepared to reap the rewards/suffer the consequences.

We all have our opinions. Mine is that Bendis is an arrogant, over-reaching, and over-hyped. An average writer at best.

Considering he sells more comics than anyone else, I'd say the hype is justified and his reach is fine.

He does, eh? Count them up: I bet Johns gives him a run for the money, and with less attitude and more dialogue in his stories 893scratchchin-thumb.gifgrin.gif

SDust,

Did you catch the Donkeys last night? Oh man, that was awesome.

Greatest part? I met D. Williams and D. Foxworth after the Patriots game and got their autograph on a ball. Next game, both get interceptions to help win the game!

Sorry for the derail. I haven't been that pumped up about a game in a LONG time.

Yes I would, if it was a good comic. I really don't care about the personal thoughts, opinions, or feelings of comic book creators.
