More Fun Comics not owned by esquire

297 posts in this topic

Since RareHighGrade and I were hijacking his thread, esquire invited us to start our own. Of course, the books in this thread are not likely to be slabbed; hopefully that won't detract from their appeal too much.

I'm particularly interested in seeing the later run of More Funs (the Post covers). I don't have any of those myself. Hopefully someone does and will post them. 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

I'll start it out with More Fun #11, featuring a great Dr. Occult appearance.

edit: It's issue #12, not #11.

Typo there, CentaurMan - it's More Fun 12 (and agreed, it's a great book)

Thanks to Mark Zaid (esquirecomics) for not only finding this item (no way that I can compete with RareHighGrade!!) for me, but for also pricing it very reasonably:

That is the nicest copy I have ever seen of a an oversized More Fun (New Fun) issue. Simply beautiful.

Sorry Peter, I should have put in a disclaimer just for you to, "Please avert your eyes at the necessary moment" (har!)

Got Larson? (Simon Powell is a jolly good fellow)

Nice subject title! 27_laughing.gif893applaud-thumb.gif

Of course, it should be more appropriately titled "Specific More Fun Comics not owned by Esquire" as I certainly own copies of some of these issues. gossip.gif But that is the lawyer nit-picking in me.

I should post one of mine in this thread just to mess things up! 893scratchchin-thumb.gifstooges.gif

The stories in these issues are, IMHO, quite bad which is probably one reason why the title ended, but I definitely think the cover art is awesome!!! Better than the Dover & Clover covers for sure. headbang.gif

You are right about that. The covers are cool, stories were bland. Dover and Clover were painful for me to buy. Not to fond of Percival Popp either. I think they were trying to kill the title on purpose to cut down on the royalty payment to a former co-owner.
