Maybe an unidentified printing between the 1st B print and the 2nd print?

Most closely matches the 2nd print, but there may be differences...

see the P shaped ink mark one the left edge on the fence, next to the missing board. This is ink and inside the P is a knot or peg, not seen on any other printings.

I would say it's a 2nd print, the flag on the back cover has a black field where the stars should be, which is only on the 1st and 2nd print, and the tire on the cover is white, so it's not a first.

I obviously don't have the book in front of me, but from looking at the scan, I think it's just some excess ink that got on the cover either during printing or possibly after.

Now that I see the close-up, it does look like a peg!
