A couple more lovely books were waiting for me on my return from Europe :)

Oddly, they were entombed in some sort of plastic cases. I've since liberated them.

Here are the before and after pictures

That looks like Everett being influenced by Don Heck, resulting in a very powerful image.

Didn't there used to be an Atom Age thread? Just got a few of these; love this Everett cover

I really like that Navy Combat 8 cover. Don't remember seeing it before. :applause:

When I got home from work today, I found this little guy on my doorstep:

I'm really liking the Hollingsworth art inside. It's simply brilliant.

Makes sense to me; Torpedo Taylor (the Navy's answer to Combat Kelly/Casey/Krinkle et. al., who apparently spends at least one panel in every story pushing buttons and exclaiming "Fire one! Fire two!!! lol ) depicted on the cover is drawn on the inside by Heck.

Heck sure gets a bum rap. He's a fine artist and storyteller, but I think most folks just don't like his sketchy, loose style.

But back to the cover; I don't even collect this series, I just stumbled across the cover and had to pick it up.

The comic is worth owning just for the Freas' painted cover but it also contains my favorite Hollingsworth story. (thumbs u

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I love getting books like this for the first time. And yet, other sirens are calling... if only I could find a nice copy of Strange Worlds 4 or 5. These Avons are super cool.
