I really couldn't narrow my choices to just 5 in each catagory, so I just picked 10 comics from my 200 best gerber covers. This was much harder than I expected. At work today when I saw the thread, I thought no problem, I can pick 5 of each. After actually trying to do it, I determined that I won't ever be happy with such a limited choice. So here is my attempt at narrowing down my list.

 

Super

All Select 1

Captain America 47

More Fun 66

Human Torch 12

Mystic Comics 7

 

Non-Super

Planet Comics 10

Mask Comics 1

Famous Funnies 212

Blue Bolt 108

Crime Reporter 2

 

and to make things worse, I don't even have one of these wonderful issues!

As a relative newbie here could I suggest that we have three rather than 2 categories:

 

War covers

Super (non-war)

Non-Super (non-war)

 

I have always been fascinated by the War covers and as a seperate category it is large enough to merit its own category and allow a competitive comparison across the Super/Non-super divide.

I don't know - if you are going to "break out" another genre besides superheros, I would say GGA, personally.

Yes, the two-category divide is not ideal and more categories would help some genres like War to be better represented or Western from my perspective or funny animals that a good chunk of boardies really like. In the end, it's a matter of time and interest that had us stick to only 2 categories: time on our part to go look for scans and tally the ballot and interest on you guys because you may like war but some else doesn't. It would dilute the interest in this process. That being said, I'd encourage you to nominate as many great War covers in the Non-Super-Hero category as you wish. I know I'll probably vote for a couple in my Top 10!
