I didn't insult you, if I had, believe me you would know.

I'm not a nut, which is what you were implying when you posted the gremlin

Actually it meant that what you said made no sense. If you insist on feeling insulted, go ahead.

Interesting how the only part of my post you've responded to is a graemlin.

Thank you Dee Dee, Donut and Silver&Bronze for saying what I would have said anyway, and actually have said in the past. acclaim.gif

This does seem to be a topic that's recycled every 6 months or so... foreheadslap.gif

And I've made my views known on this subject multiple times in the past...which mirrors yours and the views of those you mentioned... thumbsup2.gif

All that's left now is for BassGMan to jump in with his "pornstars are great at cons" counterargument... grin.gif

Dude, what the he11 are you talking about? This has nothing to do with porn stars at comic cons. Try to stay on topic and not just pull all kinds of random arguments out to try and get an emotional rise out of people.

Just like the emotional rise your trying to draw out with your response?

I was responding specifically to your Disney reference in the general sense and not pointing them out necessarily as being your own. I used the example to illustrate how the ideal of beauty can have as much an effect on impressionable young kids as objectionable or sexually explicit content might.

As a parent myself, I'm saying it would be hard to draw the line on what to put in front of my own kid, and that I would sometimes have to use a lens and magnification that others might not necessarily agree with, but ultimately its my choice what I deem as being fit.

There is no need to get petty and insulting.

If you find fault with the current perception of the ideal of beauty, thats perfectly ok, my problem is that you were steering the discussion off in a direction that was totally separate from the topic at hand.

What you decide to show to your kids is your business, all i was saying is that I PERSONALLY believe that it is not unreasonable to request that porn stars and sellers of adult material remain in a designated area at cons, so that families can avoid them. Its really a matter of respect and good taste. The whole discussion on how the current standard of beauty affects kids yada yada is a totally separate issue and irrelevant to the original topic of this thread.

Dammit. That was far more to the point than what I said. thumbsup2.gif

I have had zero communication with you. Had it been a long-standing board member who I'd exchanged blows with in the past, I might not have been as put off.

This has less to do with my insistence on being insulted, and more to do with your seeking attention and acceptance.

There is nothing interesting about my lack of willingness to respond any further. The lines drawn and I'm not biting.

I've been here long enough to have learned that its ok to agree to disagree in debate.

But this isn't about debate, and I don't revel in the idea of bashing anyone, or resorting to petty attacks on board members with opinions that run contrary to mine.

Unlike you, I'm of the view that there is something valid in everyone's contribution and participation here.

Look, i was expressing my opinion, not seeking attention or acceptance from anyone, least of all you. I disagreed with your opinions and said so. You were unable to counter my arguments without taking the discussion off on a tangent. Now you're victimizing yourself about how I insulted you, meanwhile, you've called me petty and an attention-seeker ... talk about constructive debate. yeahok.gif

So have the last word if you will, i've said everything i have to say thumbsup2.gif

Hey, sorry to disappoint you guys in taking so long to jump in with my counterargument, but I'd be glad too. Sure, I love seeing pornstars at cons. I never buy anything from them, but I enjoy walking by and seeing what they offer. Is it related to comics in any way? Of course not, but many different items being sold, displayed or advertised at comic cons have nothing to do with comics. But in most of these cases, just like with pornstars, there is a large part of that comic book geek crowd that is interested in this part of pop culture. There is alot of crossover appeal, otherwise they would not be there. Money talks, if these girls did not make enough money to make it worth their while to show up, they wouldn't be there. More power to them.

Comic book conventions are not what they used to be. I like it that way. If walking into a comic book convention was like walking into Disneyland, I'd have no interest in going. One of the appeals of these conventions, besides just being a great place to buy comics, is that they have become alot more focused on adults, instead of children. Since I have no children, I like where they have gone. If I did have kids, I would not bring them to a place that I felt had become too adult oriented or harmful to them in some way. Then again, I would also never take my kids to see professional wrestling or boxing either, waaay too violent for them. But as an adult, sure, why not? Sure beats all that gaming and anime all over the place that I have no interest in.

With that said, as others had mentioned in past debates of this issue, having a curtained off area of the con for ALL adult oriented content (sexual and violence related) would be a great idea. I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet. It would be a well marked place for those interested to go to, and the same for those that wanted to avoid it. If there is enough backlash over this kind of stuff being spread throughout the cons as it is now, we might see this change. Is anyone doing anything about it? Having a debate here is all fine and dandy, but it is not changing anything. laugh.gif

Comic Cons are becoming more and more multimedia than simply just about comics,Look at San Diego, just about everyone under the sun that is anyone goes there. From Wrestlers to Pornstars to Hollywood. This goes just not only San Deigo but really any good size convention these days..Yes there is a "Adult Convention" every year in LA (no I never went) So they do have a place to go where they can promote thier movies,toys,whatever...I wouldn't be too worried about some hot pornstar showing up at a comic convention and having to explain to your 5 year old about it there is a 99.9% chance your under 12 year old kid isn't going to know who she is to begin with,They are not there to jump on the table and start flashing everyone that walks by. (although that would be cool) Alot of you are panicing over nothing.
