Can someone provide a link to the "Gerber" rating...

But, it's all analog. You gotta look 'em up.

I think it's high time to digitize the things and/or maybe update the scarcity of some of the books with someone like Win's index.

Having an online soucrce for checking the (estimated) scarcity of books is a great idea.

Thanks for the replies. I'm actually (for right now) just looking for what each levels equates to. i.e. Gerber 1 means "x" copies exist, Gerber 7 means "x" copies exist, etc. etc. for all of the different levels. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

What do you suppose the copyright issues would be if someone OCR'd the lot? It'd cost a copy of the books since the pages would have to be unbound to get a good scan, but a hundred bucks and 100 hours could make something like this a reality. Heck, I'd host it gratis on my company site.

Anyone know Perl/SQL?

5 = 200 to 1000 copies

6 = 50 to 200

7 = 20 to 50

8 = 10 to 20

9 = 5 to 10

10 = 1 to 5

11 = No existing copies

Keep in mind that this index was created well before the internet and ebay and was based on a very limited sampling of what is actually out there. As a general rule of thumb, you can assume that most books are less scarce than their Gerber rating, though not always. Do a search for "Gerber" and "accuracy" and you should find someinteresting discussions on this topic.

That is all printed in the 1st GA Photo journal...it describes what the scarcity index means (ie. 2-10 with the higher # being scarcer)..not sure if a link online is available but I recommend buying them if you don't have one (2 books--HEAVY like 7 lbs each!) and you collect GA (which you do!)...the pics are amazing to look at... 893applaud-thumb.gif
