From the deep of the sea, Octopus Delight

18 posts in this topic

Allright, we were wondering a while ago how many Octopus covers there could be and since I like a challenge, I can confirm that there were a few more than we thought. Cartesian as I am, I organized them in 3 categories: 1) Realistic octopus, 2) Cartoon octopus, and 3) Octopus-like BEM (more subject to interpretation so I probably left some out you would consider Octopus-like).

Post them if you have them!

OMIGOD, this list is unbelievable! I'm going to pass it on to the octopus/squid/octopoid collector I met two weeks ago at Wondercon. FFB met him too, at our booth. After talking to him a while we came up with the exact three categories that Scrooge did.

Here's what I sold him: Sub-Mariner 54, Looney Tunes (2nd) 11 and My Greatest Adventure 81. Since you have Sea Devils 1 on there I guess you can consider adding these to the list.

Fantastic job Scrooge - I flirted with the idea of collecting octopus/squid covers many moons ago, and would have loved this list. Coincidently- the last of my Octo covers was just BINned

on ebay a couple days ago, so I imagine this collecting category has more than a couple fans. (though I'm guessing Shark covers might beat them out in popularity)

Here's a fun site that covers both comics and pulps...

Thanks for the link. At first, my heart sank because I thought: "there goes my time .." but it seems my list is more complete as far as comics go than the website's. I love that he / she included pulps too. You'll never get in trouble posting pulps in my threads. thumbsup2.gif

OK, you octopookers, it may not be golden age, but surely an essential part of anyone's cephalopod comics collection.

Is that an Octopus vulgaris?

(Just posted by Iltravel (sp?) on the general forum. There must be octopi in the air today -- what an image.)
