Love these old JIM covers Yep, such a great run, with the first of Marvel's cosmic superhero storytelling and a very long Lee-Kirby run of creativity, excellence, and fun. "I" could apply that to every Kirby Thor KirbyJack, however my bank account fiercely disagrees with that. . At least the part about me being able to afford nice grade copies of all of them. KirbyJack
I’ve got a few nice ones, but my Thor run was assembled during my “quantity over quality” phase, so there are still a bunch of un-upgraded issues. At this point, of course, they will almost certainly remain so. Math Teacher, Frisco Larson, Mucheee1 and 1 other
Frisco Larson
Nice copy KirbyJack!!! Yeah, they're getting expensive these days. I have SOME nicer raw copies, but many of mine are "I bought what I saw" copies. I should really take a better pic of this. MattTheDuck
I don't have any of them slabbed (or many even scanned), and most were purchased under the "KirbyJack Protocol," but I had a complete run of Thor (cheating a little by not including JIM, although I had 112-125) early in my collecting during the mid-70s. A lot of people seem to not like the stories during this time, but I always did. Mangog was a personal favorite. speedcake
I love that run. I’ll be working on completing it again soon. Great covers and fun stories, what’s not to like?
KirbyJack
It’s a thing, tho: lots of otherwise rational silver age collectors don’t seem to like Thor. I run into them regularly. The numbers, however, indicate that during the sixties, Thor was one of Marvel’s better selling titles. I know I consider it second only to the Fantastic Four. He collects them again NOW and from what I can tell, he seems to have gotten over that. KirbyJack
MattTheDuck
Forsooth, there is some stilted dialogue and story-telling, as ancient myth and legend can be, verily. There are probably no titles that are universally liked. Frisco Larson
Frisco Larson
Agreed! I don't recall ever hearing anyone tell me that they didn't like Kirby's artwork though. RayJr
