1602 possible spoiler thread.....what's in the box

15 posts in this topic

I just wanted to create a different post so as to not spoil anything in case someone was reading along in the other post and did not want to know what it i was.

Can anyone take a guess or do you know what this mysterious, powerful object is in the box that is being carried around and was guarded for all those years. Will it be something from the past, I hope it does not end up being the "ark" like in indiana jones, or will it be something from the "marvel" universe or something totally different.

Not sure what it is, but my money's on something already seen in the 'real' Marvel Universe.

Here's a thought: what if it turns out the 1602 timeline is the way things "should have" worked out, but the McGuffin-thingie in the box gets out and creates our current historical timeline instead, culminating in the current Marvel Universe? That'd be kind of cool, but might cause too many comparisons to the Spidey clone-saga revisionist history debacle.

Cheers,

Z.

That's a good idea, Zonk. And would certainly be an easy way for Gaiman (and Marvel) to avoid continuity problems. Could be a cheap out, but in Gaiman's hands, something like that would work.

I was thinking the box contained something like the "Infinity Gauntlet". Would like to see Gaiman work Mephistpholes (sp?) into the story at some point. And I'm glad that it looks like Strange will be featured prominantly. Gaiman's "Sandman" work shows that he is best when writing "mystical" stories.

Just read ona couple websites that they speculate that the Indian bodyguard for Virginia Dare could possibly be a version of Thor. It's hard to tell from Issue 1.

Any other ideas as to who the Inquesitor could be? Is it Magneto? Gyrich? Bastion?

Gaiman also suggests that the ballad of the Fantastiks is an relevant clue.

I am guessing that it is Magneto

Bastion... ROFL

Maybe it's one of "The Reavers" or Cameron Hodge or the dearly-departed "Beef" or "Post" or Onslaught or the Vanisher or... holy [!@#%^&^], there's a lot of these...

It's obvious what's in the box...

It's the Mile High 4 collection!

And Chuck is the Old Man chosen to laugh in the face of danger to deliver it.

In issue #2 he rents a broken down U-Haul with three wheels and no air conditioning to finish the journey.

He should be featuring the whole reverie in his next online article.

Notice that the Old Man has the little string tie. stooges.gif

Just heard an interesting theory on "what's in the box?"

I was discussing the book w/ a guy at my LCS and he had an idea that the "weapon" is not even in the box. It's just to throw off baddies (and the reader). What if the weapon in question was the "cane" the old man was carrying?

Think about Marvel history. When have you seen a "cane" be(come) a super-weapon? shocked.gif

Best theory I've heard so far! What do you guys think???
