After my Death

33 posts in this topic

I got to thinking this weekend, what type of plan should I have in place in the event of my death?

Now granted, I'm a chronic worrier. But I don't want to burden my wife with some nonsense. Especially at the volume I have and her lack of knowledge. And even with the knowledge, it would take years to sell it for the right price.

So, barring inheritance, what type of plans have you come up? Are there services that would sell in the interest of the spouse (and I mean fairly)? Museum donations? Libraries?

Are people developing inventory lists to make it easier?

In my opinion, the best option would be some moderately easy selling process that would make my wife some money (though I'm sure not what I'd get selling individually).

I also imagine that there should be some "teaching" involved. Meaning, understand what books are valuable to sell separately and the rest could go bulk.

Thanks in advance,

Pat

I would imagine most wives would want to dispose of them the quickest way possible. They wouldn't want to to trouble with valuation or grading. Whoever offered the most the quickest would probably end up with your books.

I keep my inventory in an Excel spreadsheet, with the titles, issue numbers and grades. This also would help with insurance claims. I would recommend that you put grades on the books so that they can be easily appraised if your family decides to sell them and you don't want them to get reamed by some sleazy comic book buyer.

Egyptian specialists will embalm and mummify me - I will be sealed in the comic cavern on a throne of acid-free boxes, to frolic in the BA/SA/GA treasures for all eternity!!!!! sumo.gifsumo.gifsumo.gif

I'll probably leave my brother (who has collected comics in the past) with information regarding the collection's value (all done in spreadsheet format), and who to contact about selling these books. I'll probably have him consign them with Metro or another major dealer and have him receive the checks. I also plan on making a couple of spiritual visits during his nightmares to remind him. tongue.gif

I am leaving a list of people NOT to deal with..

some major dealers, and greedy Canadian collectors...

also, I am placing approximate values on them and who

might be the best people to contact

My son is street wise enough to know how to sell the items

no, keep posting them! I actually read about half that thread as a result of you posting it.

I'm still not good with the search function here, so if it weren't for a couple of you guys doing that consistently, I'd miss out on a lot of information! yay.gifthumbsup2.gif

I will be increasing the value of all of your collection when I die. All of my books will be burned and the ashes scattered over Chuck Rozanski's farm so he can put me in his pipe and smoke me.

Ive got my collection (at least 80%-90%) in an Excell spreadsheet. My wife has an idea that my books are valuable, although I dont think she has any inkling as to actual value (be that expensive or inexpensive) I have actually thought about leaving a provision in my will to get Anna to have a boardie or two be responsible for selling my collection. There are at least 3 or more people here who I trust enough to do it.

I plan on letting her know how NOT to part out my collection unless she wants to get reamed on value. She knows and values money enough to not want to do that.
