Perhaps he's having to work for his living.

I picture Steve walking thru the dungeon, cracking the whip,

"Work, work, work damn you ! Those books have to be out in 34 days !

Work I say" as the whip snaps against the cold dungeon floor, sending

shards of granite spraying everywhere.

Steve would need an eye patch, and let the beard grow for a week or so....
