Bronze variants - Marvels

15 posts in this topic

Hello.

I'll be doing my late Summer tour of some local comic shops soon and was wondering what Marvel 30 cent (or other prices) variants I should look for.

I know nothing about them since I don't collect those.

I don't want the whole big list, just the more rare ones that people are looking for.

Post the ones you are looking for (include grade range) and I'll hunt for them with the stuff I'm looking for.

One never knows what one might find... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

In order of desireability:

1) Westerns (Kid Colt 205-209, Mighty Marvel Western 45, Ringo Kid 28, Rawhide Kid 133-134, Two Gun Kid 129-131 :: if you find a Rawhide Kid 134,

rawhidekid134.jpg

offer it to silverandbronze first - its the last one he needs for his set ::)

2) Horror reprint books (Chamber of Chills 22, 23, Weird Wonder Tales 15-17, Tomb of Darkness 20-21)

3) Superhero reprint books (Sgt. Fury 133-134, Marvel's Greatest Comics 63-64, Marvel Tales 66-70, Marvel Triple Action 29-30, Marvel Super Heroes 57-58)

4) all others EXCEPT for Howard the Duck 3 as there are a zillion of them.

NOTE: There are a couple of September, 1976 cover dated books that look "variantish" - Skull the Slayer 7, Marvel Super Heroes 59. These are NOT variants and do NOT pay extra money for them. If the book is September 1976 cover dated, it is a 30 cent regular price book. Also, Kazar 16 and Inhumans 5 were ONLY released as 30 cent issues, so these are not variants either.

Check your PM Darth.

Buttock - I heard back from them - they said they were sold out of the book long time ago and they never got around to updating thier listing on comicfind. They told me they don't use it anymore. Oh well, I ended up picking up a Ghost Rider 18 30 cent variant from them instead. Thank you for sharing your lead. 893applaud-thumb.gif

I should have also asked about price... blush.gif

What percentage of book should I pay?

That is to say what are you willing to pay me so I can flip them to you and at least break even. smirk.gif

High grade (VF or better) % = ?

Mid grade (VG-VF) % = ?

Low grade (Below VG) % = ?

Two of the places I go normally has a fair amount of boxes of 70s comics.

Almost no Silver or Gold in the area...

WNY is not a Comic Haven like NYC or the west coast.

If you are getting it in a store, and they have no clue, you can get it for 50 cents to $5 depending on condition

Just generally:

High grade (VF or better) % = $15 - 30

Mid grade (VG-VF) % = $10 - $25

Low grade (Below VG) % = $1 - 15

for the ones I need or are hard to find...

High grade (VF or better) % = $60 - 100

Mid grade (VG-VF) % = $30 - $50

Low grade (Below VG) % = $1 - $30

I don't think Western NY had any test cities. I comb thru the shops up in Binghamton when I'm home visiting wife's side of the family... confused-smiley-013.gif

Thanks for the plug, FD. I was getting too embarrased to keep begging people to pick this up for me.

Seriously, Aces, if you do come across this issue, I'd love to work out something that would make it worth your while. As for advice, everything Darth and FD has told you is right on the money. The only thing I would add is that I would, regardless of scarcity, pick up any variant in 9.2 or better (HtD 3 and Eternals 1 and 2 being obvious exceptions) regardless of scarcity. Especially if the seller is oblivious as to the issues' variant status and isn't charging you a premium. This scenario is more like to occur on the 35 cent variants and on the often-ignored, normally formatted 30 cent variants that lack the starburst.

If you need a checklist, print them out from my site

Gotta love spotting these...good eye! thumbsup2.gif When I see things like this, I like to comb thru their other auctions to see if they may have others, they didn't notice. The strange thing is the seller is from Virginia, and seeing that the other issues that" should" be variants as well in this lot are regular, one can assume that he bought the 61 while up in Baltimore if this is an off the shelf collection. I'll make sure to email him and see if he has more like this conan 61 smile.gif
