Good resto candidate? Batman 8

Possibly, it would be expensive though to have it done right. Otherwise you'll see a fairly faint line down the middle. The chunk missing doesn't have any artwork on it, so it'd be easy to duplicate. And the spine doesn't look too bad.

It is certainly not the easiest restore job around! That split down the middle is something totally foreign to the construction of the book. I mean, a full spine split is easier to deal with cosmetically because that area and the work can be better disguised by the fold. But a full split down the middle is going to require most delicate work. As far as the chunk missing at the top - the real problem there is that it IS a plain field. Trying to do a color/gloss/texture match on a broad field of solid color is difficult. If there were areas of art to be replaced, the eye is more easily distracted by the art itself, making it more difficult to discern.

So...what would it cost and how do you know? grin.gif

Do you know someone who knows someone.....

I actually know a couple of someones smile.gif

I'm just guessing at a minimum of $50-75 per hour, you need to fix and touch up the tear, replace the piece at the top, rebuild a lot of the spine, fix all the raggedness at the right edge, not to mention the back cover...You're looking at probably $450-600, plus the $150 for the book for a restored FVF or VF which will sell for about GVG guide ($528) and you're out $75-200!

If it was a Bat 1 or 2, maybe (ok definitely 1, possibly 2), but not for a # 8.

Just my $0.02.

No prob. I guess I'm looking at it from the perspective of profit (95% of the motivation for restoration in my eyes). It would be a good pickup as is if you're not very picky. Bat 8 for $150 ooo.gif

However, you could just wait for them to list it again maybe cheaper.
