TKO NOTICE: A28 eBay Password Reset - osborn_france Follow Instructions Immediately

Dear osborn_france,

It appears the password for your eBay account may have recently become compromised. As a result of this, we have reset your password and secret question.

To regain control of your account, please complete the following:

1. Change the password on your personal EMAIL account to verify that it is secure and cannot be accessed by anyone other than you.

2. Change the password on your eBay account. To do so, click the "Forgot your password" link on the eBay sign-in page and change your password using the instructions provided.

3. Follow the steps below to secure your account:

> Click on the "Security & Resolution Center" link found at the bottom of most eBay pages.

> Click on the "eBay Account Protection" link in the "Online Security Resources" box. This will take you to the help page titled "Securing Your Account and Reporting Account Theft."

> Follow the instructions provided under "Securing Your Account".

As you take these steps, please be aware that you may need to repeat the instructions provided above or use the "Back" button on your Web browser to return to the "Securing Your Account" page.

We have provided some additional information below to explain how this may have occurred.

Unsolicited or "spoofed" email messages

There have been a number of email messages recently sent to eBay members asking them to click on links and provide their user ID and password. These unsolicited or "spoofed" messages appear to come from eBay Support, but in fact do not. eBay never requests sensitive information of this nature via email.

Any email sent to your registered eBay email address from eBay that affects your account, or from another eBay member via eBay's member-to-member communication system, will now appear in the My Messages portion of your My eBay page. If you receive a questionable email that asks you to click on a link and it is not in My Messages, do not click the link or enter any information. Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com and we will respond to you within minutes to tell you if it was really from eBay. This also lets us take quick action on the fake website to help protect other members.

To learn more about these fake or "spoofed" eBay emails, visit the "Security & Resolution Center" link found at the bottom of most eBay pages followed by the "Stopping spoof emails and Web sites" under "General Online Safety."

Password guessing

If you use a fairly simple or easy-to-guess password, it is possible that someone could guess it after repeated attempts. For this reason, it is important to use a password that consists of a combination of letters and numbers and is not related to your user ID, name, or anything you buy or sell. It is also important to use different passwords for the various online accounts you use (email, PayPal, etc).

Computer viruses

There are a number of computer viruses in circulation that log and record keystrokes. It is recommended that computer users keep their virus alert software up-to-date and regularly check for operating system and web browser updates. A firewall for high-speed internet users is also highly recommended.

Any inquiries regarding your password or other information about your account can be sent to us by clicking "Help" on any eBay page and then selecting "Contact Us."

Regards,

eBay Trust & Safety

I would make sure you check your email account online and make sure someone hasn't added a forward/copy to all your mail, happened to me once. Change all your passwords, run a free spyware program/antivirus and make sure your system is secure.

You can right click the email and view properties to see if it did come from ebay or not. If it is not from ebay, then send to spoof@ebay.com.

IF that came in your regular e-mail and you clicked the link, then you lost control of your ebay account to a scammer.

EVEN if your name and ID appears in the email, never, never, respond to it

always go to your ebay account to respond

scammers buy from you to get your name, then send these phishing e-mails to gain control of your account

they do this with paypal too

get ready to fax photo ids and all sorts of CC info to get your account back

have you seen any activity on your account, buying or selling?

have you checked your other online accounts?

sorry for your troubles

hope you get it worked out

I did not click on any link. Btw there's no one in the mail.

I opened my IE browser and directly typed "www.ebay.com".

Then i tried to login and failed.

I'm aware of all thoses phishing mails and i generally wary about them.

I checked some of my others accounts on Internet (bank, mails...) and all is fine.

I also launched Spybot on my PC and nothing was found.

It sounds like eBay has techniques to determine if your account was "compromised" and somehow registered a false positive. The use of your name in the e-mail helps make this look legit. Keep us updated.

Good luck. We're all counting on you.

Go to Paypal immediately and check for any activity and change your Paypal password . You never know - if they got your eBay password, who knows what else they got.

Yes. Change all your passwords as soon as possible.

Had someone break into my Ebay account last year and run a

bogus auction through my account. I changed ALL my passwords

on the net. There are some very good hackers out there.

Regular mail account, but i don't think it's a scam because i cannot log on eBay.

eBay does have reinitialized my password !

I'll try to have them on the phone tomorrow.

Click on the "I forgot my password" link.

If someone changed your password you'll get the new one and can change it to another.

Exact same thing happened to me. Scary for a few days, but nothing really came of it, thank goodness. I chatted with an eBay representative who verified some info over the phone and my account was reinstated. In my case, eBay closed the account as soon as they realized someone else was futzing with it, and I had to prove who I was to get back in.

I had this once and it was legit. I had used my sister's computer and saw some odd activity when I tried to login to ebay. The odd activity was ebay featured items showing pretty graphic porn.

I later tried to log in at home and could not. I had ebay reset my password and when I logged in, I saw in my ebay messages that they had detected what looked like an unauthorized attempt to login to my account so they reset the password.

It turns out there was phishing software operating in the background on my sister's pc and my password was stolen.
