Should there be an apostrophe between the N and S in Westerns?

(image redacted)

this is one of the things that drive me abso-friggin-lutely NUTS about the modern-day message board poster.

MAKING A NOUN PLURAL DOES NOT REQUIRE THE USE OF A 893censored-thumb.gif APOSTROPHE!

"Westerns" means "more than one Western."

"Western's" means "belonging to Western."

Why are you using a low-grade hand-axe on a mid-grade book? I mean, look at the chipping along the blade, and moisture marks along the side. A 2.0 hand-axe on a 5.0 Action Comics #74 just isn't right. stooges.gif

The handle is also detached from the blade. Will I still get a 2.0

Hmm... you are are allowed a detached handle in 2.0, but given the other defects, I'm probably going with 1.8. No cracking that slab til you upgrade the axe. Otherwise I think that would count as amateur de-restoration.

Glad to help- that's what newbs are here for! thumbsup2.gif

"Western's" means "belonging to Western."

What about a family's last name?

"The Smiths" means more than one Smith. Not the Smith's.

For plural, it's The Smiths', with the apostrophy after the S.

But for a name ending in S, you can add 's:

Jesus's means belonging to Jesus.

And when listing items with a comma, you need the last comma before "and".

"I want to thank my parents, Bill and Mary" means something different than "I want to thank my parents, Bill, and Mary."

No apostrophes with any type of plurals. Smith becomes Smiths.

To create a possessive form add an apostrophe "s".

Only exception: plurals ending in "s" only receive an apostrophe.

The house belonging to the Smith family becomes the Smith's house.

The house belonging to the Adams family becomes the Adams' house.

If you read the sentences aloud you will see that it sounds "right".

My 12¢ of grammar.
