  1. and do you know what kind of motorcycle the Cap is riding? Here's where I learn whether anyone actually reads my posts. An Indian Of course, the suicide shift was on the right side. Cap rode both, Harley and Indian, and replaced them whenever they went into the water or off the road, or dropped or they were shot up, it would seem. Or perhaps Schomburg didn't care which side the shifter was on. A toe shifter would be easier to ride but not the US Army standard during the war.

  3. The Comet was a pretty good strip and it was converted to an even better strip, the Hangman, but Marvel fans would probably prefer "The Ogre and his Man-Eating Boboes".
  4. A little guy with a "Napolean's Complex" managed to convince the Comet that he should rob the company and eliminate a few rivals.
  5. Everything went wrong for the Comet when he took a little nap after saving the world.
  6. Another microbiologist that was forced to retire early. The Comet was tough on villians. Thanks for posting that story. I don't remember reading it but have seen the reprint several times.
  7. I really like the early work by Cole. I'll see if I can find my Pep 3 or 6. The Comet was a real anti-hero but I wish he stayed around long enough for Fuje to draw him as well.
  8. I guess I should put in a spoiler alert. I like the last page but some of the other art by Sprang is pretty good.
  9. I like the splash pages in Batman 20 and 25, by Burnley, but prefer the Year 3000 splash in Batman 26 by Sprang.
  10. I'm quite fond of them as well. 20 and 25 are on my want list right now Unfortunately, I don't think any of those copies would grade high enough for your collection. The Batman 25 you saw at Todd's house is probably the best of the bunch.
  11. A few more nice looking covers that have been added to the pile recently (sort of).
  12. That is a terrific book and it isn't just Daredevil fighting Hitler, it is the whole Lev Gleason clan.
  13. The new book on Baker suggests that this cover is by someone imitating Baker's style but not by Baker himself. Note that on the label CGC doesn't attribute the cover to Baker. On the other hand, there is a copy in this Sunday's HA auction and they do attribute the cover to Baker. Any thoughts by knowledgable Baker fans? (p.s. Any way you look at it, it's a sensational cover and this copy is superb.) I don't think it is by either Baker, Kamen or Webb. Someone else is imitating Baker.
  14. Fabulous - thank you BBG! If only you'd told me before I cut my copy up. Only kidding - do I recall that was an animation of FC 291 as well? I actually cut this one up when I was 10 to see the animation. I scanned and made another copy a few years ago and sliced that up for this animation. By the way, my brother was very upset when he discovered that I had cut up one of his favorite comics.
  15. I actually picked up the Western during a trip to San Francisco several years ago. I purchased the Supersnipe at the comic shop and the Westen at a nearby antique shop. I drove off with my loot and ended up on one of those funny winding downhill streets that Frisco is so famous for.
  16. Great book. I've wanted #1-3 for a while now. Thanks The covers to #2 and #4 aren't nearly as nice as #1 and #3, but since there are only four of them in the run I hope to track them down one day. These two have taken years to find though I have been searching for the first Supermouse and finally found it. But I had to buy those other two books along with it. Oh well. I'll store them with the other old stuff.
  17. Just in case you wanted to cut up the cover to see the animation. Those later FC stories by Barks are more like extended WDCS stories. Not as spectacular as FC 29 but more fun per page.
  18. I like those early Startling covers. The Pyroman orign was particularly shocking.
  19. WF 13 has a copy of the logo taped on. It is probably not the correct logo and unfortunate that tape was used. I have another 3/4 cover in my stack of WF comics.
