  1. Which makes it just that much more unappetizing. I suddenly feel like 124 is going to be the final piece to complete my run based solely on the fact that I don't want to pay what folks are asking for it
  2. Can anyone help me understand why ASM 124 is going so dang crazy? I know it's the first app. of Man-Wolf, but are people really that wild about the character? Am I missing something? It's one of the only holes in my run from #17-#128 and boy do I just not feel like paying these prices for that book.
  3. Thanks, that's really all I was trying to figure out. I don't really have much experience with books that have just one or two significant defects, so I wasn't sure how impactful they'd be on otherwise solid NM copies.
  4. Thanks! Like I said, these are the only real significant issues with the books. The top photo isn't a full tear, just a color-breaking crinkle. I'm just trying to figure out if I should maybe reach out to the seller about them having been listed as VF-NM. They also sent me a fourth printing of an issue on a listing that did not mention it wasn't for a first printing, so I'm already pretty unimpressed.
  5. Alright, so this may not be kosher for this group, but it seemed like an easy way to get an answer. I just received two ASMv2 books that were listed as VF-to-NM. All other things being equal, they're perfectly normal, 9.2 or 9.4 books, but they both have some issues that I'm unsure how to grade. The first photo belongs to book one, the latter three photos to book two. On a book that otherwise is a 9.4, how would you grade it with a defect like in pic 1? And likewise for a book with issues seen in pics 2-4?

  7. Gotcha! Yeah, I was poking around on the BCW site and was thinking their standard cardboard box would probably be fine for my needs.
  8. Do those fit graded books? They look like standard short boxes to me, but maybe I'm missing something.
  9. Hey all, I'm not a huge slab collector, but I have accumulated a handful and would like a more legitimate place to put them. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for storage boxes designed for encased books. I appreciate any and all input! Thanks!
  10. Yeah, I completely understand that. I was just wondering if there'd been noticeable patterns for short-term buys, like how I mentioned re: the movie release and stuff. Obviously it's impossible to tell if the books will have some kind of mild snap-back, though one can certainly hope.
  11. Hello, everyone. This is my first time posting in this part of the forums, so I hope I'm not making any mistakes. I come seeking advice. I'm finally committing to trying to acquire an ASM #1, as I'm worried if I don't act soon I'll be permanently priced out, and was wondering if you all had any tips. I have a pretty modest budget--I MIGHT be able to touch $10k but I'd really rather not--so I know I'm looking at probably 1.5-1.8, tops. I'm just hoping for some information, like if there's a general consensus on when may be a good time to try to buy. For example, we all know the new movie is coming out in less than two weeks. I'm wondering if now would be buying at the absolute top of demand, or if books command higher prices after release? It's also the holiday season, so I don't know if that has any impact. I'm really just coming back to collecting for the first time since the early 2010s, when these books were at prices I could generally afford--including the copy of ASM 1 that I sold in 2011, thinking surely a low grade copy will be able to be had for ~$2000 for at least another 5-10 years. Joke's on me, obviously. The point being it seems like collecting has grown much more complicated, and certainly when you're having to financially stretch to acquire something. Anyway, I feel like I'm beginning to ramble. I apologize. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Which is essentially what I was asking. I don't think I made that clear in my initial post. I've no illusions that I'll be able to buy back my 1.8 ASM 1 for the $2000 I sold it for, but I'd hope that maybe prices are a little inflated at the moment and maybe there'll be a bit of a pull-back.
  13. @alexgross.comYeah, I'd rather not see the world fall apart just to get a cheap copy, but as far as "other investments" go, that's not a thing for me, as I don't have any. I'm just a guy who likes to make, read, and collect comics
  14. And I want to clarify, I'm not dumb enough to think prices will completely bottom out, but even a 15-25% dip would be huge for me.
  15. Hey everyone. I know this probably isn't the most popular topic of conversation, but I've been really worried about how prices have utterly exploded over the past two years. I've been fortunate enough to be able to put together a near complete run of Vol. 1 of ASM, but I sold my copy of #1 back in 2011 thinking surely 1.8-2.0 books would stay within the $2000-4000 range for at least the next ten years. Little did I expect that 1.5s would be fetching nearly $10,000 in ten years' time. Basically, I'm trying to figure out if I should be in scramble mode and try to get one now while it's still within my budget--at the very, very, very top end of it--before it creeps even further out of my price range, or does anyone think prices may settle back down a little bit at some point? Obviously no one can predict the future, but any guidance or insight would be super appreciated. I'm just a collector trying to make it in an investor's world.
  16. I've actually been meaning to pick that up, but it's also helpful to have a variety of examples to look at like there are here on the boards.
  17. I'm really sorry, I just started browsing and found tons of WTB listings, so this was a silly post to make. I'm unsure how to delete it, though.
  18. Hey there! Are we allowed to make "Looking For/Want To Buy" posts regarding original art? Thanks!
  19. Which makes 100% sense! I definitely want to clarify that I'm not disappointed or sour, I hope I didn't come across that way. I find it a really valuable learning experience, as evidenced by what I was thinking versus what folks have been saying.
  20. Honestly I'm just trying to get a better understanding of grading, and this seemed like a fairly sharp copy that I got a pretty good deal on a year or two back. I was actually expecting folks to say 9.6 or possibly 9.8, but reading the comments has been really helpful in getting me to better understand how high-end grading works since I tend to buy mid-grade books because I'm not really concerned with grade that much.
