  1. I'll just add, I received my Target omnis and mmws in great condition in a few days with free FEDEX shipping. Very pleased!
  2. I recall being taken aback by some contentious posters that would post things like an image with a dog recoiling in fear and the caption "shut up newbie" or something similar. There was a lot of bullying on the boards from the some of the in crowds - IMO. I've tried my best just not to engage on that level.
  3. I'll be the first to admit that this board (and particularly bronze horror posters like Sterling) are what got me back into comics and specifically cover desire after a decades long hiatus. It took me some time to gravitate back to the things that drove me in my earlier years like content and appreciation of artists and storytelling.
  4. I've joined other boards that seem a lot more interested in objectively and thoroughly discussing love of specific artists, storylines, and comic content in general. I've always found this board to be more centered on collecting and debating things like pressing, restoration, and grading. I'd also add cover art is a strong theme here as opposed to internal content.
  5. Some of the Taschens (FF, XMEN, Frazetta, Avengers, History EC) are 100 on Target today. I still haven't brought myself to bite the bullet yet (on marvel libraries), but very tempting.
  6. Heads up. Target has 3 for 2 sale and a lot of titles (that also do not show up on amazon) are available. I was able to pick up several masterworks that weren't showing up on IST discount list for close to 27 each, and omnis that never got discounted on IST around 55 to 60 (e.g. conan - I also don't expect later conans to get reprinted for a long while). That's a 60% or better sale right there, and with good choices.
  7. The Silver Surfer Galactus could have been a classic Marvel US cover.
  8. Pedro was also in Wonder Woman and Kingsman. He's in everything. Not sure how I feel about RR though.
  9. Brickman and Tina Trowel. What a find! And if you aren't convinced enough..." There's a brand new prologue, numerous new bonus pages by guest artists such as Alan Davis and Tim Sale, and a sort of spoof interview with me. Plus an introduction by Alan Moore." and "Several years ago, Richard Starkings of Active Images in California put together a collection of my early Brickman strips and had the good idea of adding all-new pages by guest artists. Richard contacted people such as Tim Sale and Ian Churchill for contributions and I got in touch with a few people too. Naturally, Mike Higgs was on my list, and he produced the fine page you see at the top of this post. The Cloak! Back in print, - and with Brickman too! " BLIMEY! The Blog of British Comics: Birmingham Comic Art Show 1986 Booklet (lewstringer.blogspot.com) Looks like the author is still pretty active if you wanted to contact him.
  10. Maybe just me, but when I see that black thing under her, I don't think of it as a monster, but more of a cartoon black cat - like a stuffed cat toy cartoon. Also, I think of her face as like a frank miller drawing for some reason. I could find a bunch of costumes like that for generic 'hero' characters, but not any specific known character (boots, gloves, mask etc.).
  11. Very tough one. Almost seems obvious I've seen somewhere, but maybe not. Also, with the cat, and the resemblance to Incredibles - strikes me as a cartoon. Out of curiosity, how do you know for certain it is Tim Sale? Is it possibly another TS? I noticed he doesn't very often sign in that box format.
  12. Man that TOD 2 drop must have been only 1 day, I was waiting for it and missed it. I remember TOD 1 was 15 or 30 and I stupidly missed it. Some times I wait until there are several to combine for shipping - and then they disappear. Hope the TODs (any) come up again on the discount list.
  13. Halloween inspired me... (had to use Iphone cam for this, it's a little blurry).
  14. aggg. I never got it. So long ago lol. It was overwhelming for me too. If you ever want to tackle it, feel free to pm me. Looking at all your great work recently is inspiring me to do something --
  15. Still hoping you were going to ink that FF piece I sent you. Finish one for me, I'll do one for you. I've been itching to do something lately.
  16. pulled the trigger on $30 mmws thinking it couldn't last forever. Now they dropped to 26. And I gambled the Defenders 2 omni would drop even further -- NOT.
  17. Taron Eagerton was really good in 'blackbirds' on appletv. If you haven't seen it - fantastic true crime thriller.
  18. me too. I saw them in a waldenbooks ? in the mall. Wouldn't leave store. Parents bought for christmas. Those were beat to death from reading. I loved loved them. Had the Christmas Treasuries too.
  19. Origins and Son of Origins were pretty big. Origins of Marvel Comics - Wikipedia
  20. Really funny you should point that out! I never truly got into the Phantom Stranger's history. But I started reading this tome from his first appearance. My first thought on the first few issues was, this guy is Dr. Thirteen! The guy that disproves ghosts and the supernatural. Several years later, I see him teamed up with Dr. Thirteen, and Dr. Thirteen is calling him the parlor tricks guy! Not only did he kind of start out as this mortal Dr. Thirteen, but evolved into someone/thing that to me was like a huge plot twist (fated to walk the earth for his misdeed).
  21. Consider that instocktrades often has super rates for stale newer issues, like $15, or now several are $30 (including last spider-man). Have to really watch all the time. The other nice thing for those really expensive issues is they are going to reprint all the titles. How long it will take to catch up, who knows. Second thing is if you are really hungry for good prices, watch ebay all the time. I got a lot of stuff for really good prices that way. Like I got almost all the Dr. Strange titles for around 30 once in a set. marvelmasterworks message boards have reviews and sample inside images of more recent titles, and I find Amazon shows the earliest images of to be released titles. I've been collecting masterworks for a long time now and love them.
  22. Yep, Masterworks forum USED to be updated. I find Mike's Amazing Marvel to have a fairly good history. Any later titles can be found at instocktrades using mmw as search term. Mike's Amazing World of Comics (mikesamazingworld.com)
  23. Sorry guys, no letters pages. It very much resembles HOS,HOM and other bronze omnis in quality and structure. A lot to digest though!
